I presume he's happy with his recent Esoteric purchase so why the suggestion of the DP750?
Need some idea of how much you want to spend in order to come up with a sensible suggestion

No comment on Accuphase, but am wondering if you've tried some of the Esoteric integrated or pre/power combos? You might not need to go any further and would be great synergy with your CDP.

From these pages on the Accuphase Journey, I learn that it is a journey (maybe a very long one).
Thats why I am here.

First, I limit my comparison of electronics to the Japanese brands. I want to drive a Lexus, not a Mercedes E-Class nor a Ford Mustang, if you understand what I mean.

And I had some listenings with various dealers of my Scala Utopia with (in alphabetical order) Accuphase, Esoteric, Luxman, Technics, Yamaha amps.

Right now, I am still using the Yamaha A-S3000. I had a A-S2000 for ten years (on Kef Reference) and was happy. I like very much the Yamaha sound. Open and transparent (and no longer harsh). I predicted that Yamaha will come with a small pre/poweramp combo, and here they are with the C-5000/M-5000 series. I will have a test of this combination on my Scala very soon. I may like it! And I continue to predict. I would not be surprised if Yamaha will upgrade the CD-player soon (CD-S5000?) and in three, four of five years, they will have even better pre/poweramp combos. Why? Because right now, Yamaha is no longer active in the high(er) end audiospheres, and they come back slowly. Now the C-5000/M5000 series is comparable to the small Luxman combo or the small Accuphase pair 2120-4200!

When I compared the Japanese brands (limited to integrated amps), I liked the style of sound of those in the following order (I am talking about taste here, like wine grape varieties):
Yamaha 3000, Accuphase 470, Accuphase 650, Accuphase 600, Luxman 590, Technics (se-r1 + su-r1; not really integrated...), Esoteric F-05.
However, when I talk about the sound quality of these machines, it was logical that it was a question of price:
Technics largely in front (normal, double price) before Accuphase 650, 600, 470, comparable to Esoteric (same level as Accuphase in the same price range), and Luxman, Yamaha behind (but not really far).

The question: an expensive red Bordeaux or a reasonable prices white Bourgogne? Question of taste, and not only quality.

But I can see that Accuphase (and I like the sound) allows me a journey. I can start little and change and upgrade when some money comes in. I do not need to buy the C-3850/A-75 series right now (and I do not have the money neither...) but can start with a C-2120 and a 4200 or 36 (all these things are getting replaced and it is possible to get them at a good price, and walk uphill over the next years.

This is not possible with Yamaha, not yet. The mountain top here is named 5000, and it is still not very high (end). But I am sure that at this level, it is possible to overlook the neighboring peaks of Luxman and Accuphase.

Esoteric? Originally a dream (what a look and what a quality!!), but the sound is to ... polite. I need some punch. That's also why I hesitate between class A and AB. Right now, I tend to AB (i.e. 470) rather than A (i.e. 650), but this can also change. With the age, people get wise, it seems. It is a question of short or long listening too.

Just a word on the k-01x. All the amazing things said about this machine are correct. This digital machine is able to bring us to the heart of the music. It is unbelievable. And as many people write the same about Accuphase (in particular class A) loudspeakers, I want to start my journey.

I hope this explains why I arrived on this forum page.
