Anyone using or listened to the VPI Dual Pivot Modification?

Seemed kinda pointless to me when I first read about it. Once I got used to the uni-pivot arm after a few weeks it just seemed like the norm to me.

I have one and I really like it. And to be honest I can’t say it sounds any different.

Thanks...I have mine for 10 years and used to the Uni-Pivot myself but if there was an improvement I would spring for the $150.00.

I see mixed reviews on it from no difference to a nice improvement. I guess it might be due to the previous set-up.

Yeah, I think proper cart/arm setup would provide a bigger difference than this. It seems like many tweaks you will get those who heard nothing and those who want to convince themselves they heard something. For those who have to have every tweak, the cost is probably small for the peace of mind they'll get.

I bought it just because I hate the VPI wobble.

I do have one.... and removed it. The unipivot works well when properly set up. I have 2 tables with unipivots. The VPI is set up with a digital stylus gauge and a Fozgometer. It can be a lengthy process. What I heard with the device and it's additional pivot point was the "flattening" of the highs. Of course the installation required a complete re-set-up. Not doing that again!!! Happy with the original 3-D arm. And a precise set-up. The arm does not wobble when playing!.org

I have one, installed it, had some issues, removed it, realized it sounded better with it, reinstalled it. While it was a pain in the ass, it was worth it in the end. There is a good thread on the VPI Forum on how to properly setup.

I too just recently installed this modification.

For the price it is a no brainer. Bass is fuller and more defined. Soundstage also seems to be more holographic if you know what i mean.

One thing I have noticed and have determined. The amount of pre-load on the DP should be equal to the tracking force of the cartridge. Too much or too little pre-load seems to make the sound smeary.

To measure the pre-load, I weighed some double sided tape and added weight until it measured 1.5g ( my tracking force) I then put it on the right outrigger weight on my tone arm and adjusted the drop counter weight until it just barely lifted the DP off the skid plate. once done, i double checked to make sure my VTF was still good, adjusted AZ and off to the races i went.

My Prime Sig is on order with the Dual Pivot from the factory. I spoke with Marc, their CS head and he said it did offer better bass response. I should have in in house in about 10 days. It will be a good move up from my Scout 1.1.
