Default SA8004 SACD Player

I bought this player as a stand in for my reference player. I am amazed at how good it is. I have read several good reviews on this player and they are right. My GF says it sounds good because of the system I dropped it into. LOL. My cheapest IC cost 5 times what this player did. I had an inexpensive Sony player in the system for a couple of days and it was like listening to music through a wall.

Is this player as good as my K-01? Of course not. It is the best player I have heard under 5 grand. It was $900. A bargain for how good it is. Now when does my K-01 return from service. LOL.

Jim
The sa8004 is an outstanding cd/sacd player that is easily worth double even triple it's price. It is my main source for listening to music

I dropped it into my system while my K-01 is being repaired. Amazing how good it is.

Jim - what happened to your K-01?

My back up player is the Oppo BDP-95 and it sounds fine. When using my system for background music I use the Oppo as a transport and feed the digital signal to the K-03. In my mind this helps minimize wear and tear on the Esoteric transport.

Basically it quit responding to any of the buttons on the face plate. Ivan is all over it. It will get fixed. I have an OPPO 93 but I have not tried it in my system. It lives in my video setup. It would be a pain to take out of that system. I will sell the Marantz when I get my K-01 back.

I like mine a lot too, but my sole reservation is that the bass is a little flabby, like they voiced it to sound analog. Lacks the low end authority of the better Marantz players, IMO, but still, a great CD player, with immense inner detail that sets it firmly in audiophile territory.

I think that SA is one that Modwright mods too, it is a great player for the coin. I think it is as good or better a redbook player than the oppo 95 I have, but I am not sure against the 105?

Loving my 8004 but still deciding whether it sounds better or just different from the analogue (TUBE) outputs of my Shanling MKII T100.

The sa8004 has been upgraded to the sa8005 which also includes a $200.00 price increase.

Been listening to the SA8004 that arrived from Craig (crwilli) this afternoon. Very nice sound and very pleasant to look at and easy to use. A most suitable replacement for the rather long-in-the-tooth McIntosh MVP861 it replaced. Cleaner sounding and much faster response to the various control inputs. Who knows? I might start liking this digital 'stuff'.
