My dealer had some compact towers a few years ago. It was a ~$7.5K model with the touted cone tweeter and 2 mid/woofers on the front baffle, plus side-firing woofers. First impressions were "meh", but after some room treatments and a different preamp, suddenly these were excellent! Top-class expansive soundstage and 3D imaging. Very impressive. Obviously, the room acoustics had been handicapping this speaker's bread & butter. My preferences lean towards much bigger cabinets and radiating areas for more weight/impact, but the imaging on these speakers was sublime.

Like Julian I also have the Caldera III speaker, still my favorite speaker to date. I prefer the passive woofer design versus their ported designs for my room. Their ported speakers do well in medium to large rooms versus their passive design which works well for all room sizes, currently only the soon to be phased out Cardeas speaker is their last passive woofer design. The current Scorpio speaker is their best bang for the buck speaker, having the same drivers as their current Avantera plus speaker but with a cheaper cabinet. For smaller rooms the older Virgo III with the same passive woofer design as the Caldera still works best.

Hi there,

Since 6 Months i own the AP Cardeas and they really play beautifull in my room, very controlled en very real, just Nice.
Before i have played a really long time with Wilson WP 5,6 and 7, imo de AP is just the better sounding speaker.

Gert.

My HT system is all AP speakers. I have the Classic series that are covered in glass for dampening. They are striking to look at but do show dust easily.

We have the Tempo Special Edition made several years ago. They sound quite good in our living room with the PrimaLuna integrated amp.

Default Audio Physic Tempo Plus inbound

So, after a bit of reorganization of our 2-channel space*, we considered stand-mounts to replace our existing floor-standers (Aerial Acoustics with REL subs) which I have high praise for.
We tried several recommended two way 2-way speakers with several stands (Dynaudio, ATC, B&W, Harbeth). But we ended up with another floor stander: the Audio Physic Tempo Plus.

The diminutive footprint of the Audio Physic, unique styling, overall quality of execution, fantastic imaging (up there with the larger Aerials), coupled with excellent low volume performance won out.

We also 'discovered' the Dynaudio Special 40's which will go to our summer place. Overall, I gained a much better appreciation of a good two way.

* I call it a 2-channel space. Others in the household call it a reading room or living room.

I had a pair of AP Avanti Centuries before switching to Wilson. This was an Avanti upgraded with the Caldera tweeter, circa year 2000. I ran them with CJ Premier monos and then Atma-Sphere MA-1s. Delightful speakers - I used them in a near-field setup. Although the woofer wasn't adequate for large-scale symphonics, their narrow baffle allowed excellent imaging.

I am big fan of older Audio physic speakers and use the Scorpio II in my big living room for HT and Virgo V in the dining and kitchen area .. both powered by a Marantz PM-11s3 amp (sometimes in parallel mode) ... I would love to upgrade the Scorpio II to the old Avanti V
