Yes, right now B1s are in a smallish room with moderate treatment. Have tried diffusion and absorption at first and second reflection points. Now have absorption at 1st and diffusion at 2nd.

I listened to the B1s and Rockport Avior on the same day in the same setup. Although I preferred the Vivids overall due to their speed and clarity (and bought them), I really liked the Avior's sweet top end. The next day I heard a live, unamplified small ensemble that included a drum kit. I remember thinking how much the live cymbals sounded like those reproduced by the Aviors.

So, it would be interesting to me if you could compare the S1, B1 and Avior in the highest octaves. I know I need to just find a way to listen to the Magicos, but that won't happen for at least a few months. Until then, that is what audio forums are for!

Interesting to hear your impressions! To me when I have the Vivid B1 and later the G3, I actually found the top end very smooth as if it had a slight downward slope in the higher octaves. I liked it a lot. The Vivid disappeared like no other speaker I had and that is what I miss most about them. I will say the Magico Beryllium top end seems to have slightly more extension and I would give the Magico the advantage there. I'm not sure it would help with any issues if you find the Vivid treble bright. I thought the Rockport was darker sounding than both Magico S series and Vivid but beautiful sounding in its own way.

I agree. B1s are not bright but rather on the neutral side of neutrality.
Give them some brightness and they will sound bright. Drivers' design makes them very linear, perhaps a bit too much to forgive potential issues with your overall system or your room. My best listening of the B1s was with an Avant Garde amplifier and Esoteric K-01 player.

Rockports and Magicos (the S series) both use the very same Scan Speak Be tweeter.

This is not true. Magico's tweeter is is different than the off-the-shelves one used by Rockports (and others). Both the surround and the voice coil are custom parts that Magico designed and manufactured, resulting in much greater X-MAX (3 times the regular) and lower THD.
All drivers used by Magico are actually custom designs... this is why they sound better.... and cost more to produce!

The B1's will really shine with a class A amp like a Pass Labs or Luxman. I'm running mine with Luxman M800A and it's so musical.

I stand corrected.

Did you ever take the time to here the Magico S1? The B1 and S1 are on my current short list.

Alas, no. The stars haven't aligned to put me next to a dealer yet and I've been too busy for a dedicated trip. No local dealer. Please post back if you get to make the comparison.
