Default Avid TT upgrade

After several back and forth with Avid, I finally decided to upgrade my Volvere to the next stage: Sequel SP. I tested the speed of the Volvere with platterspeed and I found out that the speed was higher than 33RPM and I had no control on it.

Conrad from Avid told me that it would be more beneficial than upgrading the tonearm. I've deceived to go as high as I could with the Volvere. I will have the SP upgrade which give me control on the speed and upgraded twin belts motor. The Sequel upgrade includes a better PSU and larger motor.

I've sent the bearing this morning to be upgraded as well. I will post pictures and give feedback when I receive the kit.

Georges... Great upgrade, I'll be looking toward to your impressions once you get it in your system.

Congrats Georges !

BTW methinks that you'll go up to the Acutus SP so maybe better to go right now. It will be cheaper down the road !

Georges/Antipop,

I am so pleased. Were you influenced by Jean-Marc? Jerome's suggestion of the Acutus SP right away is maybe valid, but you would have to sell the Volvere. At least this way, you are upgrading what you already have. Myself, I did think of the Sequel before borrowing an Acutus SP and then selling my children to pay for it! Only joking...

I do hope Conrad is pleased to be selling so much into France. Maybe he owes me a drink or something? Reference power supply at a cheap price would be nice!

Thank you Ivan. I sure will. I'm very curious to hear the added benefit of the upgrade.

Thank you Jerome. I'll buy the Acutus when you get the Alexia

John, I'm the one who influenced Jean-Marc and lead him to Avid. I always had the upgrade in the back of my mind but after seeing the speed platter results I asked Conrad about it. One thing lead to another and I'm now getting the upgrade. Obviously, Jean-Marc has sped things up for me and after seeing the Acutus I'm glad I've done it. I wish I could afford to go straight to Acutus as it is a wonderful table but I want to buy an RMC and a SME V beforehand.

BTW I love that Avid offers the upgrade path. I bought the Volvere knowing that when I had the cash available I could get it to SP and Sequel. That's a great peace of mind right there.

Very interested in your assessment/review since I also have a Volvere. Look forward to your follow-on impressions.

So you 'll never get the Acutus...
Harbeth will be my last speakers. Until I die.
Do you want to bet an Acutus on this ?

Everyone here on AA KNOW FOR SURE that Harbeth won't be your last speakers, and that's all I wish you my friend.

Georges, excellent decision as we talked about it last saturday; and yesterday Olivier told me you made the good decision too.
You'll have a great TT for sure.Congrats in advance.

John, let me know when your Reference upgrade will be done and your findings/expectations.

How about an AVID OWNERS CLUB?

I'll report soon on mine.

Yes, I agree with you totally. Being able to upgrade with parts from the original manufacturer is wonderful. Too many third party 'upgrades' are not worth the time, trouble and expense.
