Default First turntable, part II

I thought I had set my mind on the Rega RP3 as my first turntable until I stumbled upon a used VPI Scout last weekend.
Although above budget (again) I think this would be a better option for me, knowing my urge for upgrades.......

Are there any things I should be looking out for when buying a used VPI Scout?

Thanks!!

Gert, congrats on the VPI ! be carefull with cartridge set-up for azimuth can be a little tricky with uni-pivot arms.

as for cart suggestions at your price point I have three...........

Sumiko Blue point- HO MC
Denon DL-103R - LO MC
Ortfon 2M Bronze - MM

I would only consider the Denon if you have enough gain with your phono stage. I believe it's output is .25mv or less

Pulled the trigger today on the VPI Scout and a Dynavector DV-20X2L cartridge (why do I even bother with giving myself a budget ........ )

Everything should be installed here on Thursday, can't wait to spin my forst record!!

That sounds like a great setup, did you buy a phono stage as well?

if not be sure it has enough gain to satisfy the low output of your cartridge

Thanks!

I'm going to save up for a phone stage. Thinking of either a Dynavector 75 mkIII or even go for an (used) Electrocompaniet ECP-1 to keep it all in the family.

Yessssssss, my vinyl rig is here (well, parts of it )

Still playing with the old Project phono box for now, but I found an Electrocompaniet ECP-1 phono stage, that will be shipped on Monday, so then we can do the final tweaks, but for now, I'm one happy camper

Gert-Jan,

I love Electrocompaniet stuff!

You might want to try their ECP 1 phono stage as it sounds much better than its very reasonable price suggests - you could get one second hand for between 350-450 Euro. You can then upgrade the wall wart power supply when budget permits! I imagine it would have very good synergy with the rest of your kit.

Peter

Edit - while drafting this note, I see you have formed the same conclusion!

Gert-Jan

When you have recovered fiscally from the outlay on the new phono stage, the ECP-1 power supply upgrade is from Mackenzie Hi Fi (£299) and really does put the stage in a new league!

Best
