SLP-05 Making Its Way to Alaska!
Starting new thread to keep the title proper..........
I will now be an SLP-05 owner! In transit as I type. Scheduled to be here Thursday or Friday. Didn't think I would stray from Conrad Johnson, but curiosity and upgraditus won. I will have questions, no doubt! |

Congrates! You will love that pre. Very good synergy with most other amps. I have found their stock tubes to be very good.

I will first be running it with a CJ Premier 11A (70 wpc with KT-120's). But I am replacing that with a pair of CJ LP-125M's (125 watts each, also with KT-120's) before very long (one is in for service). Speakers are 1973 AR2ax three-way sealed (acoustic suspension) that I've fully restored with new pots, caps, foam surrounds and oil finish). |

First question ........
I will be integrating the 05 with my home theater setup. One of the side benefits of this preamp is that I can use the HT bypass with the unit switched off. Ideally, I would like to be able to switch it on with my universal remote when listening to two channel. I wish it had 12v trigger in rather than two triggers out only. But I've figured a way to trigger power on and off to the 05. Can someone tell me if it would work and, if so, would it be potentially harmful to leave the pre switched on and turn power to it on and off externally? That is, if I leave the power switches on the pre and power supply on and turn on power to it from a switch the pre's power cord is plugged in to, will the pre turn on completely and would that be safe? Thanks........... |

I can see how it is desirable sonically with the unit at stable temperature all the time. There is also the argument that the preamp itself would last longer without repeated heating and cooling. But I don't want to replace eight tubes very often! |

I think the 24/7 suggestion was only to accelerate the break-in period.
