I am a believer in dual subs, direct experience from 90's when I had Velodyne.

In the case of Q7 and Sub, what would be the correct x-over frequency? I like to hear bass from
Q7 driven by expensive amp as down low as possible. And this could mean Qsub will work from only 30hz down.

Also you mean to connect Qsub to pre processor or to main preamp? It will be very complicate connections.
I want subs to work as a " .1 " in 7.1 soundtrack, but I also prefer extra infrasonic info during two channel play back.
Seem like I have to switch balanced cables between preamp and pre/pro alternately.

Anyway for me, F212 are more suitable,

Toga

Toga... A pair of 212's or 213's seems in order.

Haha Ivan, you are quick!

Fathoms have more manageable size and weight than Magico subs.
And actually during action movie, I will not have time to think about textural or nuance of
Robot footsteps or a machine guns firing, i just need fast, tight and strong clear bass.
I rarely listen to organ music, classical is also not my top priority.

@Charles, I understand your point as your have direct experience using large sub to fill large tower,
I know it will compliment to 2-channel in a way few will experience, to have very low bass note.

Actually In my fantasy, Q sub is in tower form, same height as Q7 and with four of Q7 12" drivers. Put them along side the Q7, gonna be more cool.

Magico Qsub

Quote:
Magico LLC, the leader in high-performance loudspeaker design and manufacture, is proud to announce their first subwoofers – the QSub-18 and the QSub-15. Built around the renowned Q platform, the QSubs set new standards in low frequency sound reproduction. Capable of delivering 136 dB sound pressure level with less than 1% total harmonic distortion at 20Hz, the message is simple: if you think you have heard low frequencies before, think again. According to Magico CEO and chief designer Alon Wolf, “Bass has never been heard like this before. For the first time, low frequencies can be produced with unprecedented clarity.”

The QSub-18 weighs over 550 lbs. and has massive power handling capability of 8,000W, delivering thundering low frequencies that are fast, pure, and devastatingly accurate. As the images below illustrate, most conventional subwoofers fail to address the biggest problem in reproducing low frequencies: enclosure warping. Due to the enormous sound pressure buildup, the pliable walls of typical enclosures absorb a tremendous portion of the energy generated by the drivers, leading to distortion and massive group delay (smearing). The QSub can reach an internal sound pressure level of to 175dB – the equivalent of a commercial jet at takeoff – with less than 1% displacement of common enclosures.

Two massive woofers, each capable of 34mm of linear excursion and handling power of 8,000 Watts, are mounted in 2″ thick aluminum baffles and fire adversely in phase to cancel out driver-borne resonances and lower the tremendous internal pressure. This is the way a subwoofer should be built.

At the heart of the QSub is a revolutionary new digital amplifier equipped with a 7,000VA power supply and regulated output stage. It develops an astonishing 6,000Wii. Designed to operate in two channel music or theater systems of the highest quality, the QSub has an onboard digitally-controlled active crossover for seamless integration with the main loudspeakers. The controller can also be bypassed for home theater use.

Representing an exciting addition to the trailblazing Q-Series of loudspeakers, the QSub will set a new standard in low frequency reproduction. In spite of its extraordinary performance, the QSub is a fairly compact (albeit heavy) unit that will not invade the listening environment, and can be ordered in Magico’s M-CAST range of satin colors or their signature hard black anodized finish.

Magico will be demonstrating the QSub-18 at CEDIA 2013 in Denver, Colorado at Booth 3812 from September 26 – 28.

I guess Q1 voice coils will get fried long before Qsub start to get warm this way. , but this is interesting idea anyway, while expensive.
