Default Am I the only Parrot Head?

My musical tastes are diverse and encompass almost one thousand years of music which ends in the 1980's with a few younger exceptions.

That said I catch more hell for being a Buffett fan. I know he's in it for the bread, and his recordings have had a lot of cash infused, but I still find him to be a damned talented musician, probably because I listen to mostly vinyl... And radio Margaritaville occasionally.

Go ahead. Begin the mocking.

Although I don't consider myself to be a "parrot head'" I feel Jimmy Buffett has written and recorded some songs that will always be considered good--true classics--such as Margaritaville.

You are not alone. There were thousands of us in attendance when Jimmy performed here last month.

I've liked Jimmy Buffett since even before I first saw him at a free concert in 1974, and I still like him. As he says, he's incredibly lucky to be able to do something he loves as his "day job".

He's an excellent writer (not only of songs but also books), and over the years has attracted some excellent musicians to play with him. His charitable activities over the years are far too numerous to mention, and he doesn't seem to take himself very seriously.

Similar to the situation with the Grateful Dead, most people only know him for the image of Parrot Head concerts and Margaritaville. For anyone who cares, there is so much more to him and his music.

Great post! There is so much pent up emotion in a lot of his songs.
