Default McIntosh Pass Through

I will be integrating a McIntosh C2XXX into my system and plan on using it for two channel music listening via a D100 that I use as a DAC. My main pre-amp/processor is an MX151.

I've never done a pass through setup before so I'm sort of fumbling around in the dark here not sure what I should do.

I was thinking I would:

1. Use one of the trigger outputs from the MX151 and connect that to the Pass Through input on the C2200

2. I go to the MX menu and setup that trigger to come on when I select the MX function I want to activate it.

So thinking about how to set this up all I ended up with was a bunch of questions:

1. The C2200 will be set for the correct XLR input from the DAC. Does the XLR output from the C2200 goes to the MX151 XLR input?

2. Or do I have to put the C2200 "between" the MX151 & the MC501 amplifiers?

3. Does that result in the C2200 being on all the time?

The rest of my inputs to the MX151 are digital and handled internally by the MX.

I'd rather not run the tubes all the time if I can help it.

Sorry for the long note. I'm totally confused and scratchin' my head here.

Default McIntosh Pass Through

#1 no!!!!
#2 yes
#3 the C2200 will be on when the MX 151 is on.

Here how you hook it all up.

C 2200 L, R MAIN outs to MC 501 L, R inputs.

MX 151 Front L, R outputs to C2200 L,R passthru input.

Use 3 conductor 1/8” cables for all the following control connections:

1. Zone A out on MX 151 to C2200 pass through in. *

2. C2200 main power control out to Left MC 501 power control in.

3. Left MC 501 power control out to Right MC 501 power control in.

4. MX 151 Trigger 1 out to center channel power amp power control in. Configure Trigger 1 to Be ON when MC 151 is ON.

This way, the C2200 turns on the L and R amps only.

Zone A power control from MX 151 turns on C2200, sets the correct passthru input, and sets gain to 0 dB.

* You will need to configure which C2200 input you will use for passthru- I think there is a menu option to do so, or you will have to use the one they have selected. Either way you have to get into the C 2200 to configure passthru.

You will loose the Room Perfect EQ function when you use the C-2200. There fore I just run the output of my Stereo pre-amp into the analog inputs of the MX 151. And use the pure audio mode. That way you can turn off the C-2200 when not needed.
