Its good to be happy with our ‘stuff’. But like Stephen, I also have a scientific bent and have to try.

Sounds like you’re ready to try a Sigma USB.

Yes, indeed. It is VERY quiet. This is "par for the course" with all Shunyata products, in my experience.

You probably won't want to hear me say this, but try snagging 1 or 2 Shunyata Venom 3 power cords some time and put them in place of your WW Silver Electra 5^2 power cords, like on that sweet C-J Pr17LS you have (such a lovely pre-amp)....

One of the bedroom system's upgraded-connector Electra 7s will migrate to the 17LS, replacing the Electra 5^2 that's there, when I build a new bedroom-system rack that will accommodate the original Hydra that's currently in the home-office system. I've ordered a Venom 10NR for the Hydra.

Saint Mrs. joined me for an Alpha listening session last evening, but I'll save her comments for the separate thread I'll start after I've put a few more hours on the Alpha.

I became an official member of the "Alpha" club yesterday afternoon when UPS dropped off a package. I had been listening to music most of the day, so I opened it up and installed the Alpha into my system.

Right out of the gate the music was more alive. So much so that I was actually taken aback and I remember thinking, "Really? Can it really be this good?" I listened to about a dozen more songs and came away with my first thought which I will share now. Others are better at describing nuances than I and I will leave them to it.

Prior to purchasing my Dali's last year I was a dyed in the wool electrostatic owner. I've always had ESL's and tube gear. I made the change last year when I finally decided I would give up some of the midrange magic ESLs are so famous for in exchange for better dynamics and more weight on the bottom end.

What struck me yesterday and today is how much of that midrange magic the Alpha put back into my system. Really, I am stunned. Music is more immediate, the midrange is sweeter and get this; at lower volumes, (65db peaks) it's still all there.

I am more than delighted with my purchase. The Alpha was no small decision for me and worth every penny. I can't wait to find out how it evolves in the next couple of weeks.

Thank all of you for your excellent reviews which led me to give this a rip.

- Bob

Very much so. And to all of what you've said, I'll add that, judging from what I hear now at 67 hours, it's just going to get better. And better.

Enjoy.

Seriously, though, great review and if I can speak for Jim, very consistent with our experiences.

Its just going to get better from here.
