I don't remember the break in period as a big factor for me. My system is located in my home office so I just played music for a few weeks while I worked. During the critical listening sessions the system had already reached its steady-state operation. More critical for me was introducing the Pass Labs monoblocks and the WW Silver Eclipse cables. |

All kidding aside. I will say I have just a TON of hi Rez on disk. The differences between sacd and double dsd and 192/24 or 44/16 are quite audible.
My reference to this is in regards to the 20.7. The differences were not as audible with my other system which consisted of the ML Odysseys Last edited by timm; 07-20-2017 at 09:24 PM. |

Listened to a ton of the 24 bit Beatles tonight. Maybe not your typical 20.7 music. It was really fantastic. I precluded that with Tchaikovsky's entire Swan Lake ( Jarvi - on Chandos) - remarkable. So panels are doing their thing. And I still think there could be more improvement left |

Probably around 110 hrs so far. I decided to muddle w speaker placement. I pushed them around and they are now about 5' from front wall as opposed to 10' ... huge bass increase. I also moved them closer together by about a foot. The listening position moved proportionately. Things are sounding mighty good.

timm,
I was wondering how you were doing with the new Maggie's as we hadn't heard from you. That is great to hear that they are opening up and settling in. I really enjoy the life size sound stage they present. Keep us posted! ~Mike |

Congrats on those Maggies! Instead of a tape measure I use a Bosch GLM 15 laser measure. Much better and easier. Not expensive from a hardware store. The bass panels should be about 1" closer than the tweeter is the current recommendation I believe. I found that worked very well with the 3.7i's.
Also in Jim Smith's book Get Better Sound, page 115-116 he says tilt the speakers forward so that the middle of the drivers are at 90 degrees to your ear height. That's hard to visualize, but the picture in the book makes it clear. He goes on to say "If the speaker is tall the sound will be arriving from the lower portion of the panel ahead of the sound from the upper section of the panel. Slight smearing of the sound will result." He goes on to say how to get the forward angle right using a mirror. I had the 3.7i's on Mye stands and was able to obtain taller threaded points for the back of the stand to tilt the panels forward. |
