Does anyone here know???
GaryProtein, this is a great question.

Very interested. Was it tough to set up and calibrate?

Hi Guys, apologies for late reply

the Deqx is very flexible, so it depends on your needs.

For me in my system, my room has always had issue in the 50-200hz region as it gives too much bass gain in that region, especially with dynamic bass heavy music. I have tried a few things from lots of DIY bass traps, Rives Parc, Lyndorf RP-1 and a cheap Beringher eq unit without ultimate success.

I run only analog so the notion of a digital processor being plugged into my system has always been quite illogical. The dealer offered to come and set it up and for me to have a play. Most of my doubts disappeared after we put it into the tape loop and just played music direct and via the AD / processer / DA convertor. Must to my surprise it was transparent and I would have a hard time picking what was playing.

He installed the DEQ HDP-4 and measured the speakers (with mic and on board software) and calibrated the bass of my Wilsons - all on a PC.
Below are the graphs before and after the correction, thou both not to the exact same scale. in this case correction was limited to a frequency range of 20Hz - 200Hz where most of the room was having an effect.

This had a small but noticeable difference when playing music, especially with a bit of bass energy. The music was clearer in the bass, yet the mids and upper frequencies were the same - slight lie as the mids opened up a bit when some of the mush disappeared.

We also did 3 different profiles with the parametric eq on the laptop. Slight dips ( 2-4 db) in the 50-200hz region that depending on the music really help clean up the bass mud that can interfere with the overall music. the original bass correction and the 3 profiles are available at the flick of a button on the remote as well as direct when the tape loop is off.

there is also more simple eq adjustments on the remote if you do not want to go into the laptop.

For the past 2 weeks I have just been listening, adjusting the profile depending on the music and enjoying.

The DEQX for me ticks all the boxes of being transparent, speaker calibration made a positive difference and the multiple eq profiles allow me to enjoy the music.

is it easy to set up ? I can't say as I did not do the intial setup but Alan said it is not that hard. I can adjust and save the multiple eq's on the laptop which was easy to pick up.
I believe Deqx have a live online support function that allows their engineers to measure the speakers and set up the intial profiles if there is not any dealers nearby.

For myself, I can't see the Deqx going back - it is now part of the system.

cheers

Thanks for input, Turntable
I just did an A/B with my lyngdorf unit with room perfect on and in bypass. The difference in low end punch and precision is pretty dramatic, but the biggest difference is in the midrange. I assume that because room perfect is cleaning up the big peaks in the bass range, now the midrange is so much fuller and audible. Upper midrange choral voices and instruments that are a jumbled mess without correction are now well defined. I'm glad I did the A/B, I saved myself 5000 dollars as I'll keep the Lyngdorf for now.

Thanks again
