You've probably got this already ironed out by now, but the real advantage of an XLR, or balanced, connection is that it has built-in immunity from common mode interference such as picking up of AC hum should the cable be run near any high level AC signals. The longer the run, the more likely a coaxial (RCA) cable would pick up noise with the possibility of 60 hz hum being heard from the DB1.
