Whats the pick then MA9000 or MA8900?

300 vs 200 watts
8 band vs 5 band adjustment
Minor SNR difference

From a sales point of view for the company, not sure it is a great idea. Old user of Mc amps will just buy the new module instead of purchasing whole new unit, but for new user maybe if other companies are offering this solution and Mcintosh not... maybe Mcintosh is losing some new customers.... hard to tell...

It might actually work out a bit in the company's advantage. The vast majority of MC preamps/integrateds that are replaced by the customer ends up on the secondary market, from which Mcintosh doesn't profit at all. The price that many of these late market used models sell for is not much less than what you can get at a dealer who offers a decent discount. Upgradeable digital sections could remove some of those units from the secondary market, forcing some potential buyers of those units to buy new. Mcintosh would also make money off of the digital board upgrade which Im sure would cost $1500-$2000 at retail, thus allowing them to amortize the R&D costs of the board over a broader base.

The beautiful McIntosh MA9000 integrated amplifier would be a prime candidate for a tube preamplifier section. .

Presenting my hybrid dream version McIntosh MA9001.

If the McIntosh MA9001 were real, I would probably consider it as a replacement for the C2300 and MC452 in my living room system. In my opionion, this would be a perfect hybrid integrated amplifier. I wouldn't even care if McIntosh deleted the EQ.

That would be cool if they could pull it off...I don't know how they would package it with the tube preamp section and maintain the "separate chassis" they do with the integrateds.
