Are we living in a Multiverse?

The "Universe Inside You" youtube channel puts out very interesting material. This latest video on Multiverse theory does not disappoint.


Hugh Everett III was an American physicist who first proposed the many-worlds interpretation of quantum physics, which he termed his "relative state" formulation. One evening in 1954, in a student hall at Princeton University, grad student Everett was drinking sherry with his friends when he came up with the idea that quantum effects cause the universe to constantly split. He was way ahead of his time with that theory.

Fascinating thought even if it is only "theoretical".

Sorry, didn't see the whole vid. I guess it's possible. Were still babies in the bathtub with our toy Voyager's when it comes to actual objective flesh and blood exploration, and putting a limit on 'the observable universe' because we've only had 13.5 billion years of observable light doesn't really do it for me. I was barely out of my pram back then.

I am no scientist can somebody explain a multiverse? is it something beyond our universe i e a mile past our border or are we talking about other realities? other dimensions or something else?

In a nutshell and keeping in mind it’s all theoretical stuff, imagine blowing bubbles and all those bubbles floating around. Also quite possible that they split into more bubbles which are of the same soap origin but each now has a life of its own. In one bubble the Doug Lax is an audiophile and in another he is a coin collector... Yes, this stuff is seriously being considered these days as it seems to have enough support to be at least theoretically possible.

A few years ago a very cold spot of "Background Microwave Radiation" or CMB was detected.

From the articles on the topic:

"This means we can't entirely rule out that the Spot is caused by an unlikely fluctuation explained by the standard model. But if that isn't the answer, then there are more exotic explanations,” added co-author Professor Tom Shanks.

One of these possible explanations has the Cold Spot as the scar of a cosmic collision between our universe and another. So far, we are only getting a picture of what the Cold Spot is not, better data might one day tell us what it is.
