Azimuth setting on Classic 2

The manual is pretty vague about this, I found a forum posting that suggested rotating the tonearm counterweight to adjust the azimuth but this appears to affect cueing. The manual points to an "azimuth ring" which it says to rotate. What's in the manual doesn't really reflect what's on my turntable. Do I loosen the two set screws on what looks like the azimuth ring and then turn it?

Both. I think the counterweight is the rough setting and the ring is for fine tuning.

I turned the very bottom ring the one with the knobs on either side. I leave the counter weight straight up the screw pointing up. I then put a one revaluation twist on the pick up wire that plugs into the that little box. That's what I did I'm right

I don't like the design because you can never get it right. Setting the vta throws off vtf and vice versa. Seems like a round counterweight is better to me.

Thanks, I'll have to play w/this tomorrow. My table is perfectly level but when I cue the arm it moves a few mm to the outside of the record, I think due to the counterweight being off axis and it being a unipivot arm. My arm also doesn't seem to have VTF fine tuning at the end of the tube as described in the "manual". I couldn't see any type of screw in there to adjust. I really must be missing something about all this VPI hype.

It took me forever and I had my dealer help me too. Once dialed in, you'll be drinking the koolaid too!

I understand your frustration. I have spent a great deal of time attempting to decipher the manual. While I like the TT and am happy with its performance, getting there has been difficult. Poor or nonexistent illustrations, missing info and reference to parts not found on the Classic 1 demonstrates ,to me, a company that has lost its way with regard to customer satisfaction. It is a shame that you have to depend on various web sites to set up your TT. An effort by VPI to match the quality of the manual to that of the TT would go a long way showing they care about the total experience and not just selling another box.

The marketing videos from VPI are nice (Bloomberg, Stereophile, and others), but it would be great if they put some efforts into setup videos to complement their manuals. Either way more pictures in any manual go a long way in getting the point across. "Seeing is Believing".

Get ahold of the Soundsmith Counter-Intuitive. Makes all your issues go away! In fact, was able to get finer azimuth settings with Peter's tool!
