Before purchasing these I had auditioned the Excite 12's and the Contour 1.4's, the latter I liked very much. I did not like the Excites at all. The lcoal dealer did not have any of the Focus line in stock, so I'd never heard them before I purchased mine. Given the product reviews and the price point I was given at an out-of-state dealer, I decided to take a chance. I reasoned that I really couldn't go wrong; if I didn't like them, I'd be able to get my money back. PC was a big help, given his thorough and well reasoned reviews.

Although I loved the Contours, I started with the Focus line because I wanted to ease back into hifi with a modest but effective purchase. I hadn't really bought anything for over 20 years, so sticker shock was big time. The Focus line had gotten very good reviews, and although I was set on getting floor standers, these seemed too good to pass up. The 160's were just out, so folks were getting rid of the 140's they had in stock. Nice time to buy new.

They are a perfect fit for Melinda and I at this time. They are currently doing double duty, music and HT. And the WAF is very high. She not only likes their looks, she keeps telling me how she has never heard music with so much clarity and detail. I have them on Dyn Stand 3's. They basically disappear in the room. That's the good part. The bad part is that they are not positioned correctly at all for critical listening. I've decided not to worry about it for now. I'll let them break in for starters, and I'm also actively trying to decide what to get to drive them with. I'm anxious to hear them with something like the CA200. Or the Bryston 100 integrated. But that would require me to get a DAC because the TV and Apple TV do not have analog out, so the whole thing gets more complicated. In the meantime, the little Focus 140's have happily replaced my big, old Spica Angelus, and they are sounding very nice, indeed. I'm very happy to have them.
Pider, I went from Focus 140s as my first pair of Dyns, to Contour S1.4s (and now Special 25s, which are a different animal altogether); the S1.4s...IMO...are a truly great monitor, whereas the Focus 140s are merely very good.

It's a big step up; take it when you're able.

A rather dark and dusty pic (doing some updates and renovations) of my modest room...with Special 25s.

I may not have 6-figures worth of blue-meters, but I do have (2) C-J MF-2500a, and a (David) Belles 150a Hot-Rod laying around...just for good measure.

(J/K...one of those 2500a has to go soon). Glad to have a Dyn presence here at AA!

I love the way CJ looks on the rack, very elegant! You have a nice system. I'm sure it sounds wonderful.

Thanks Joe. Compared to most, it's outta this world; to others...just a'ight.

Actually...I wouldn't normally put the amp up on top like that; that's the one that's going. I did have the 2500a where the pre-amp is, and I would keep the pre up top.

But I wanted the one that's going up top, so I can spruce it up for its new buyer...which meant putting the working 2500a on that little, make-shift stand; and the pre nearer the bottom, so the ICs reach.

But I kind of like the way the C-J looks on its own amp-stand; regal, and commanding...lol. Besides, it barely squeezes into that rack space; it's a big mutha.

Wow, Howard, that looks really nice! Especially with the Clearaudio Concept turntable which matches the black 140s perfectly!

CD, the system and the new amps look great. I do agree that putting the amp on an amp stand sounds like the way to go. Also looks really good. BTW, there's a company called Zoethicus that makes really nice amp stands that might be worth considering.

Read your post on the new MF2500A in the C-J forum, and I am very happy it's working out so well for you. I'm sure it sounds great and the power the amp puts out lets the system take charge of those big beautiful Evidence woofers!

Well, the Dyn forum has only been in existence since the weekend, and it's already passed the Cary forum in the number of posts.

Joining the Dyn thread...

I have a pair of Contour S1.4 in maple with black Stand 4. I have also replaced the silver baffles with the charcoal ones used for other finishes.

Other equipment is:
Rega RP3 with Groovemaster Reference Subplatter and counterweight
Dynavector 20x2H cartridge
Simaudio Moon 110LP phono preamp
Naim Audio UnitiQute, used as digital front end and preamp
Naim Audio 250.2 power amp
NaimAudio NACA5 speaker cable
REL Serie T-7 sub
Transparent Audio interconnects

I also use Dyns in my 7.1 home theater system:
Audience 72, 122c, 52SE, 62, Sub 500 (driven by Arcam AVR300)

Don't be fooled by the Naim UnitiQute. I am 99% a vinylphile. I'm here to help PC keep CD in check.
