Serge...I would have thought the VSi60 is a bit underpowered for the Sophia 3s. Sounds like you are quite taken with the Tannoys. Are you going to check out something up the line from them? How are you liking the Ref 5/MC2301 combo? Thx

Yes, Tannoy has really struck a bell with me. I will be looking into the higher up models that may possibly replace the Sophia 3s in my "analog room". My "analog room" seems to be a bit too intimate/smaller than optimal to fully let the Sophia 3s come out and play. When I temporarily had the Sophia 3s in the much bigger room in my basement, they were truly in another league... Unfortunately I can't use that room for yet another system.

Serge...what do you think is being most limited in the S3's performance with the current placement in your analog room? I know in your old place you had the S2's and the Sasha's on a long wall placement, fairly wide apart with a good amount of toe-in. I am assuming you got much more width in the soundstage in that set-up but perhaps not as much depth (i am surmising here). In your current set-up where the S3's are on the short-wall with more distance between the listening position and the speaker, what are you finding is being limited in the S3's performance? I would suspect stage width is not as expansive but if you pull the speakers into the room you should be able to get more depth in the sound field. Or is it something completely different? Perhaps the way the bass is loading the room? Just curious. Thanks.

Cyril, I experimented with some treatments in that room that I borrowed from the theater. That is what I need, what a surprise.... Actually bass and soundstage width and depth were fine in the room. It was the way they were interacting with the room, a bit too forward and a bit unrefined sounding. In the bigger room the speaker was more relaxed and balanced. Once I put a few bass traps and panels on first reflection points and played around with positioning once again, all was back to normal. The rest of my listening sessions were done with acoustic panels in place.

The VSi60 has been returned. What a sweet little amp. I do have to say that I would have loved to do an MC275 vs VSi60 shootout. Going from memory, the 275 sounded a bit more dynamic and a bit more resolving over all but that was with a higher end preamp in place. I did not see any provisions for using the amp only section of the VSi60 so I used it as an integrated only and could not use the Ref 5 preamp with it..

Serge...good to hear you got the S3s to play nice in the 2-channel room with some room treatmets. As for the VSi60, I have not heard it but my dealer tells ,e it's a geat little amp and they are doing good business with it.

I know this thread is old, but it seemed the best place to ask for a newbie.

Just got a new VSi60 with KT120 tubes. Anyone have any experience with break in time
for this unit? Do improvements just accumulate or are there any periods of retreat?
Thanks.

If it is anything like their amps and pre-amps count on 500 to 600 for full break in. Before that it should sound good, but a bit inconsistent
Good luck it's a great amp and welcome.
