I too recommend an audition. As mine was one of the first I would recommend a listen with one that had the current transformers as it is a big improvement at least to me. Howie
What was the vintage of your GS150? What was the issue with your transformers?

Is there a difference in sound between the Ref150 and Gs150? I like the look of the Ref150 as it would match the Ref5se. If I get the the gs150 it's only appropriate to get a Ref6. Ugh more money.

Bad ARC transformers (Power and OPT) are not a new thing, my tech has quite a number in the garage from where he works out of when he was repairing ARC for the distributor here - and we are not a very large market - quite small actually compared to the US.

I would get a mint pair of 250SEs from 2012/13 and have them upgraded to SEs. They would have the older and thicker Tan coloured boards, american made VU/BIAS meters, and longer copper matte finish (more durable looking) speaker binding posts. They have cut costs in the amps after 2015.

I would go to your ARC dealer and get them to give you a home audition of both amps - a dealer worth his salt will do this esp considering the cost of the amps.

IMO, I have a suspicion that the GS150 is just a Ref150SE in a more expensive welded chassis and sporting meters hence the price difference.

**Updated my post to state REF150SE - as the SE version comes with the same KT150s as the GS150.
