You can see from my signature line that my choice is ARC + Sonus Faber. And I agree 100% about your observations on detail vs. musicality. The analytic/detailed type of sound can be impressive initially, but after a while I find that I am listening to the equipment and not to the music. With ARC + SF, you get the detail presented in a natural way that doesn't project it "in your face". I've tried a number of different equipment combinations but keep returning to ARC + SF when I want to enjoy the music.

I'll say Sonus Faber. Also, ProAc loudspeakers. Stewart Tyler uses ARC gear to test his speakers. I had a pair of the response 2.5 for 15 years with my ARC VT100 amp. I might also suggest Harbeth. British loudspeakers seem to love vacuum tubes

Try to get in touch with Warren from ARC and maybe he will give you his opinion off the record???

I think as the "ears" of ARC you might want to tap his database. I got my answer.

Thanks for all the input. I will definitely check out all the suggested brands, even if I have to travel all across two states to hear them. Thx. Pete

Wilson and Magnepan are the best matches I have heard.

I would generally recommend choosing speakers according to your listening environment and personal taste and requirements and then matching amplifier(s) to speaker.

I have B&W N800s driven by mighty Ref 610T monos. The combo sounds so nice that makes it very hard to upgrade the speakers
