According to Ron, the best sound from the MR88 can be had with the balanced analog out. The tuning module is digital in nature, but outputs an analog signal. If you output to another DAC, you will go through one analog to digital conversion before feeding to your external DAC.

As always, though, let your ears be the judge.

Steve.......The MR88 has both a coaxial digital output and an optical digital output. I feed the coaxial output directly to the coaxial input on my MCD1100. I have compared the analog balanced and unbalanced outputs of the MR88 to the digital output through the MCD1100 DAC's, and the digital output sounds better. This is not to say the analog outputs don't sound good, they most certainly do, but the digital output through the MCD1100 DACs has improved imaging and depth with a slight improvement in overall clarity. I believe that Ivan (Masterlu) came to the same conclusion with his MR88.

I will have to experiment, I fed the digital out into my MCD500 and to me it didn't sound as good as the analog outs. I'll see if I get a different result feeding into my DAC2.
