Springbeg.......That is a fine looking room to enjoy music in. Your PMC IB2 SE speakers look fabulous.

If you don't mind, may we know your first name?

Hi Dan.....I'm Keith. Actually Dan, I've been familiar with your superb system for quite some time. When I first became interested in Mcintosh I wanted to know if there were other users of PMC and Mcintosh amps. Sure enough, a quick search of Google and pictures of your system greeted me. I had long lusted after the Eb1's but as you know, PMC ceased production. If memory serves me, they go lower than the IB2's.

David......regarding the Isotek Evo. It replaced a Russ Andrews unit. My regular retailer here in Scotland allowed me to audition the Isotek for two weeks before committing. I was very impressed. I appreciate that there are those who dispute the merits of such units but imho it lifted the performance of my kit.

Keith.......I like that you discovered my system in a Google search. The PMC EB1i's go down to 19Hz. I have a 20Hz test tone and can confirm they produce that frequency. I think the longer transmission line of the EB1i verses the IB2's length is what helps make the difference. I love my EB1i speakers. Driving them now with a pair of MC601's.

Fantastic. I recall hearing the Eb1i's at a time when they were out of my financial reach. Actually Dan, you might be able to advise me. I'm looking to make the transition to the MC452 and the C1100. My worry.....would I be sacrificing detail and neutrality. You know yourself how transparent PMC Speakers are. Apologies if this is not the thread to raise this but I did post on the Mac thread but have heard nothing yet.

Keith.......Moving from the McIntosh MA8000 integrated amplifier to the C1100 preamplifier and MC452 power amplifier will not cause you to sacrifice anything. In fact you will find an improvement in resolution across the board with amazing clarity and dynamics delivered by the MC452. It is an exceptional power amplifier. I have not personally auditioned the new C1100 preamplifier but members here are reporting it to be a fabulous control center that is ultra quiet and extremely refined.

There is nothing to complain about the MA8000 integrated amplifier, but the C1100 and MC452 are in a different league. You will definitely notice it with your PMC's. You will lose the eight band EQ moving to the C1100, but from my personal experience with my C1000C/P and the C1000C/T preamplifiers feeding the MC452 and MC601's, tone controls are totally unnecessary in my opinion.

I am considering Isotek Evo or Pure Power 1500. Any idea about Pure Power?

Much appreciated Dan. Getting soundings from more seasoned Mac users is incredibly helpful. I don't change kit often and only when persuaded that the benefits merit it. By the way, the eq on my MA8000 has remained in bypass since the day of its purchase.

Sorry David but I have no knowledge of the Pure Power 1500.

I would be very hesitant to purchase any PurePower products, as there is a long and well documented history of problems with many of their units and a lack of support since the company split with questionable ownership between Canada and Asia. A search on some of the audio forums cover the issues in detail.
