I heard the same thing. The new DD+ with it's new electronics is suppose (I have not heard them) to rock big time.

I carry them both; the JL is the clear winner according to my ears.

When I had my DD-15's,I noticed after 3-5 months the blue logo light was going dimmer and dimmer.
I checked on the avs site(velodyne official site) and was directed to Velodyne themselves.
I talked to the techy guys there, basically asked:
Why would the logo light go dimmer
Plus can it be changed out
Their response was there's nothing you can do or we can do to fix it,that's just the way it is.
I mean come on,even LED's on cheap realistic components last for years, let alone other gear.
Imagine Mcintosh's blue meters going dim after 3-5 months and they say, that's just the way it is.
That tells me velodyne really doesn't care alot about even the little things
which add up to quality.
I wouldn't buy velodyne even if JL stopped sales,i'd go Thiel's SS-2 or maybe Rel.
velodyne lost two more sales because of That's just the way it is and hopefully more since a year ago that I've posted on AVS and other sites.
There,done venting
I have 4XF-113's and musically and movies.

FWIW, the blue "Velodyne" light on the front of my DD-18 is still the same brightness as it was when I got it.

Granted, mine isn't on 24x7, only when watching a movie as it's slaved to by surround processor and is only used as an LFE sub.

If you're like me, and can't do an audio comparison, then do the next best thing. Try a visual comparison. I couldn't find DD18 exploded view, but here's a JL F112 exploded view.

Nice pict.my F-113 led lights have been on 24/7 for over a year,
heck my Bryston gear has been on for 3yrs or more.
I did PU a new F-113(#4)3 months ago as one of the 4 JL's I have won't do the
ARO octave anymore, which I picked up used on audiogon.
The F-113 that wasn't working would have cost a grand to ship it to be fixed and also a grand to repair it(no warranty)as it was purchased in the US.
So even with the used subs, JL(at least for one sub)got up to bat and helped out quite a bit I'd say.
Their service is way superior to Velodyne's,hell I even told velodyne that they should take a hard look at Bryston's customer service, they might learn something(that I doubt)now I need a couple of 212's and i'll feel real good
