Default What McIntosh equipment would you downsize to?

As many of you know, I have been living, for the last three years, in a large house provided for me while I restore another house on the property.

Well, because of some unforeseen circumstances I will be moving to a MUCH smaller place. Read 1 bedroom/studio type apartment.

Right now, I have 4 Full McIntosh set ups... several are going to be sold or put in storage.

So.. if you were in a similar situation, what would your "set up" look like? Keep in mind that I do not need to build a single small system just out of gear I currently own, I could do some trading.

This could be an interesting discussion...

PS. I see some HEADPHONES in my future...

If it were me and I was moving into a studio, I'd keep your main system and store the rest; however, if I were moving into a 1 bedroom I'd keep the main, the bedroom system, and store the rest. I'm too much of a pack rat to sell anything.

I would keep everything in your main system and sell the other 2. Check out Stax for headphones- serious headphones for serious music lovers.

I agree with Greg. The main system is a keeper.

+1

In my opinion, the LS360 are the most under-rated/appreciated, speakers being sold, on the used market.
Yes I own them too. They play everything well!
Dont sell, even if they do not fit your current situation.

Hi two dot,

Keep your main system BUT with a twist.

1. Sell off the preamp and get the C500P preamp.
2. Get the newer BD player (MVP881??) when its released.
3. Complete the system with a MR88 and presto!, you have one full McIntosh system.

Think your other systems when traded would yield the gears I mentioned and they not necessarily had to be new, especially the C500P preamp.

Thats my view and certainly, I would downsize that way.

Cheers!

Stephen,
I'd keep the main system as well - I see you have the LS360s for sale. If you're looking at monitors, you've got a lot of choices. Wilson Duettes, B&W 805s (I remember you like the sound of the 802Ds), SF of course. On the other hand, there's a number of floorstanders that have basically the same footprint as a monitor on a stand (my preference usually).

Sorry to hear that you have to downsize. I would keep the C2200, MC402, LS360 & MCD500. Sell everthing else and do the following.

Living space system:
- C2200
- MCD500
- Mc402
- LS360
- Mac Mini (as music & movie server) connect to MCD500 for better audio via optical
- One 32gb iPod Touch (as remote & on the road)

Bedroom system:
- Apple AirPort Express (to stream music off Mac Mini) connect to Apogee or Benchmark DAC via optical
- Apogee Mini DAC or Benchmark DAC1 pre (both has headphone output)
- Focal Professional CMS50 (powered mini studio monitors)
- Sennheiser HD650
- Same iPod Touch as remote.

Wow,

Sorry to hear this. If you can hold onto the main system, maybe keep the 402 incase you want to do home theater. Sell the rest.

I'm not liking the sound of any of this. It makes me sad.
