Default Sony 85" vs. Samsung 82"

Anyone had a chance to side by side view these 2 models? SONY XBR85X850D SAMSUNG UN82MU8000 I'm leaning towards the Sony based on size alone. Thoughts?

I considered those 2 models but decided to go conservatively with a "small" 75inch 900 series. It was much less, part of my decision. I like the Sony picture a bit more than Samsung I feel it's more plasma like, with better blacks and contrast.

I have a 73" Mitsubishi DLP right now and I really like the picture when watching movies but it's time to go 4k and time to strike while the sale prices are hot. I have enough room for an 82 or and 85 but there is about 1k difference in price. I could get a Samsung 85" for the same price as the current 82" but I don't want to buy a tv that was released in March of 2015, 4k or not. I briefly considered a 75" Samsung OLED but I really want a bigger size jump from the 73" I'm watching now.

Yeah I don’t blame you I went from a 65 to a 75 so that was a jump in size for me. If I were you I would look seriously at the Sony if I went bigger that’s the route I would’ve taken.

I have that same Mitsubishi 73 DLP top of the line, has a great pic I should of got the 85 or 95 DLP a few years back

These DLPs are impressive, I agree I would like 85 too but it gets way $$$$$ly and I would want a 4k newer Sony I feel, they do make a 85 but it is like $20k OUCH!

I would go with a Sony OLED 75" only a bit larger but picture is WOW!

Yep, those Mitsubishi's may be a little thick but man, what a picture (for movies anyway) for such little $$$. I have a guy at my work who offered to buy my 73" for $350...funny thing is, the next day I found a mint condition 84" Mitsubishi on craigslist for $350. I would have just done a "swap" for the bigger one..BUT...I invested major, major $$$ into a McIntosh MX122 so it's time to go 4k and full 7.1 sound. I'm probably going to go with the 85" Sony so that I don't regret not having those 3 inches a few years down the road (I'm keeping whatever tv I get next for a long time)

I have the Sony 85. If you can fit it, buy it. It is really spectacular!

Anyone ever buy from Abes of Main with any success? I've seen a few things about them being shady.
