Dave.......Thanks. I agree, the performance boost with solid state drives is worth the cost. Like you said, the costs have been coming down rapidly.

Last night I ordered another Samsung SSD, a 500TB to replace the 7200 RPM hard drive in my Sony Vaio laptop. I'll use the Macrium Reflect cloning software again to clone my laptop hard drive to the new SSD, the swap the laptop hard drive for the SSD. This should speed things up. I'll store the hard drive as a backup. I've decided my Sony Vaio laptop will replace Marlene's 14 year old Sony laptop. It is ancient. My Sony Vaio runs Win10 with a dual core Intel i7 processor, plus the new SSD that will be installed next week. The 16" wide screen HD screen will be a large improvement over her old laptop. She's happy, so I'm happy.

I just received an email letting me know my new HP Spectre X360 15t shipped and will arrive next Thursday. I am excited to get my hands on it.

I am getting to be a pro at swapping hard drives for solid state drives. This afternoon a new 500GB Samsung 860 EVO SSD arrived. Using the Macrium Reflect cloning software and a SATA to USB 3.0 adapter I cloned the 500 GB Toshiba 7200 RPM hard drive in the Sony Vaio laptop to the new Samsung SSD. The process was perfect and with a few screws removed the hard drive was lifted from the Vaio and the SSD was installed. I crossed my fingers, pressed the laptop power button, and within moments Windows booted and everything was exactly as it had been when the Toshiba hard drive was installed.

I like having a solid state hard drive in the laptop. I always worried when I moved the laptop while it was running with a spinning hard drive inside. I don't think it would take much of a bump or jar to have the hard drive head hit the spinning platter, thus damaging the hard drive or the read/write head. With a solid state hard drive in place, handling the laptop while it is operating is no longer an issue. It makes good sense to me to have an SSD in place of a hard drive in any laptop. Now my Sony Vaio is booting faster, apps, files, and photos load in a snap, and my stress over damaging the hard drive while moving the laptop while running has vanished. I suspect my battery life will be extended, too. I also ordered a new battery for the Vaio laptop. Once it arrives and is installed the Sony Vaio will be better than new running the latest Windows 10 Creator edition OS on a new SSD with a new battery. Life is good.

This is really good input. I have been thinking about just such a change in my main desktop machine. I wondered what the performance improvement would be. Thanks.

Joe.......The performance bump is absolutely worth it. My HP desktop computer in the office feels like a brand new computer. It is faster at everything. I had considered a solid state drive over year ago but the prices were still a bit stiff. They have come down in price dramatically this past year, probably as production sped up. Amazon is still showing the 1 TB Samsung 860 EVO SSD for $127.98 with free shipping for Prime members. That's a good deal. Cloning the hard drive and getting the new SSD installed is a cakewalk. Make it happen. I am confident you will be pleased.
