Default B&W 802D and McIntosh MC275?

All,
I am going to post this question in the McIntosh group as well. I would value everyone's opinion on hopefully a simple question: Would a MC275 tube amp and a C220 Preamp be a good match with a pair of 802D's and would the MC275 have enough power for them?

I am sure some out there have checked this out and will know............

Thanks in advance for your responses.

Since this is in the B&W Forum now, I have changed my mind -- excellent match with the MC275-----------NOT

See here -- for your endless loop question:

I just replaced my 802 Diamonds with a pair of Rockport Mira 2s. I was running them with a MC402 and was very nice, but much better when I moved on to a Classe CA2300. Best sound I ever had. Now, with my Rockports, I have moved back to McIntosh with an MC452. Very new for me, but so far, I am loving it. I was worried that I would miss the 802s.

From my experience, the B&Ws are power hungry for sure, the more power you give them the more they will sing.

My MC275 is running my 803S speakers and there is plenty of power. They sound great with it.

I would say the 275 will mate well with the 802's but they would certainly respond better with more power. As mentioned, they are hungry beasts. Mono 275's would prove to handle the 802's far better, I think.

Generally speaking when we talk about the 802's or 800's being power hungry or liking alot of power, to some people this may sound like the only way to get them to sound good is having a high power amp and cranking them to high volumes to get them to sound good. this is not the case.

They are power hungry in that a well designed power amps will make the drivers "bloom". There is definitly a big difference in the "bloom" one amp provides to another.

I am running mine with 140W per channel bi-amped and they are doing ok although I have my doubts about whether my amp is truly 140W per channel.
