Great review, I enjoyed reading it.

They are beautiful and I am sure they have many very strong attributes, such as tone, realizm, energy, but to summarize:

somewhat directional speaker
takes forever to break in
not plug and play, take care to set up
bit tubby in the bass
they have a bit of a shout
they cost $20k
likely limited to mid sized rooms, Latours are better choice for large rooms

That’s what gets me about speakers….you can pay a lot and still dont get it all..

Sounds like to me the better all around winner is….the Devore 096, and at half the cost. No its not a Shindo, but its a wonderful alternative.

Has anyone here heard the Line Magnetic Audio 755ex speakers and had a chance to compare to the Lafites and/or the Orangutans?

Yes those 755EX intrigue me as well.

Larry, a silly statement..

I understand you have to feel good about your recent purchase of the O96's (excellent speakers, no question) but to compare the
O/96 to Lafite is like comparing DSLR to a rangefinder camera..

** Both capable of extraordinary results but completely different in their design intent/goals. **

To mention that the best alternative to the Lafite is the O/96 is completely missing the point of the Lafite and the words written by Shindoug.

All single driver speakers are more directional than two way designs..

So do most speakers. Yours did..

Care and attention to setup is crucial, and I would expect
nothing less from a high performance product.

They actually work great in small rooms, near field setup, as well.

Hi Lowens and Matt

I can see how one might jump to that conclusion after reading my review, I apologize for any obfuscation on my part. The Lafites really have to be heard to be understood – they just sound so incredibly alive and natural. Reading my review it’s easy to miss the forest for the trees. The point I was trying to make was that even though there may be some apparent small shortcomings, (which may likely be room / system dependent) they were, in my view, completely inconsequential to the Lafite’s utterly extraordinary ability to play music.

There are two ways to choose a speaker:
You can choose a speaker because you don’t hear much wrong with it. Or, you can choose a speaker because you hear a lot right with it. That’s not a right and wrong choice, but a completely personal preference. My preference falls into the latter camp.

Thanks for the review and clarifications.
Did you also get to hear the Line Magnetic 755ex speakers at pitch perfect?
