The MX151 arrived yesterday afternoon! I unboxed it this morning, slid it into the rack and did a little RTFM.

Now I am wiring up the system, one cable at a time, so I should be done in time to listen to Xmas music as that season approaches.

Well, wiring things up and doing some cable management won't take that long. I will need to set input assignments and write that all down so I can send my URC remote file to a buddy for some tweaks so everything functions as desired.

Edit: Not sure why but Photobucket links leave some very large pictures on a post lately. I'll just attach a pic or two...

I don't have much to report on progress since the MX arrived here.

I've been working on other things and, quite frankly, a bit hesitant to take on the task of setting it up. Adding to the workload is setting up a Raspberry pi to take the place of my CAPS 3 music server, changing Roon cores and starting over with the Roon setup.

I finally pulled on my big boy pants and tackled both setups today and experienced mixed results. I now have music being produced by the system the TV input is also working.

I'm hoping that this MX remote is a learning remote or can be programmed as I would like to use one remote to control all sources. It's either that or start another time consuming and onerous task of re-programming the URC MX880 integrated remote.

I still have a lot of learning and tweaking to do. Some of the finer points of setup (speaker or output levels to optimize 5.1 channel sound), finding the inputs on the remote that I've set up and room correction may be outside of my technical abilities.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not sorry I purchased the MX151 and I will keep plugging away at this. It's just a bit more than I expected it would be and no local technical help is available given the current situation.

Michael, it looks beautiful. Hope the set up will go smoothly once you are into it.

Thank you, Paul.

It appears that one of our AA forum members will be reaching out to assist this mentally disheveled member with his setup.

Default Things are moving forward...sort of... ;)

|Sorry...this is turning out to be longer than I thought it would be |

Well, with some very capable help I was able to do an initial setup on the MX151. Thanks again, Tom!

Before I could do a full setup I needed to finish my cable management & get the system placed properly in the room. Finally, all the tasks which were once before me are now complete.

Oh, I still have some tweaking to do with Room Perfect, speaker distances, volume levels and such; which was going to be one of my tasks today but events conspired against me and it will have to wait.

One of my center channel speakers let out it's magic smoke earlier this week. I've never had a speaker just buzz and quit like that before. Sure, it's an older unit but it still surprised me. I opened it up and it looks like a fire bomb went off near the smaller voice coil, one large cap and a smaller cap nearby. The CB is also blackened with a small crack running from the cap towards the coil.

I like running two of the exact same speaker in that position as it just sounds better to me. My mono center channel amp actually has two outputs and has no problem powering two 200W speakers rated at 8 ohms or 350W @ 4 ohms. Given my new room size that may be a bit of overkill.

I found one Vienna Acoustics Theatro on eBay but it's one of the gray matte finished ones and his asking price is foolish. So while I am looking for a gloss black example I am also shopping for a new pair of speakers. And a new pair is looking better and better to me.

I am intrigued by one model I found the Tannoy Mercury VCi. It's a legacy product and one firm is blowing them out the door at a super low price. Ratings are 140W @ 8 ohms so the amp power rating is not an issue.

And so it goes for another day in the life of audiojunkie...

Sounds as if the amplifier let go. Careful connecting anything else to it until that's further investigated. For starters - how much DC Voltage do you measure at its output?
