John, I send you strength!

And this is indeed a good version.
I've played it innumerable times in my practice.

SCHUMANN - Symphonies Nos. 1-4; Overture, Scherzo and Finale
Staatskapelle Dresden, Wolfgang Sawallisch conducting
Warner Classics/EMI (2015/1973), via Qobuz

Not much I can add to the years of reviews, these are excellent performances.

Anne Queffélec

Winding down for a moment.
Very intense day so far... (it's not finished yet, I'm on call for 24 hours).

Lively, fiery music.

Engelbert Humperdinck - String Quartets
Diogenes Quartett
via Qobuz

I've been listening to this ensemble quite a lot lately, and I was curious how Humperdinck would sound by them.
Highly romantic!
I wouldn't attend a concert, but this is ideal music to browse the web, read a newspaper or have dinner with, which was exactly what we did.
Good sound, as usual with the cpo label.

Les Voix Humaines
Jordi Savall, viola da gamba

Works from Mr de Machy, Forqueray, Telemann, Schenck, Hume, Sainte-Colombe, Abel, Playford, Marais, Mr. De Caix d'Hervelois, and a certain J.S. Bach.
My weekly dose of viola da gamba...

A wonderful LP recording. His playing is so expressive, and the sound is rich and full. Hard to beat analog Archive recordings. (I think the sound turned a little strident/cold when they switched to digital recorders.)

Late Mrs Savall had something elf-like, her minstrel voice is the ideal companion to lead you softly to bed...
