Take care not to demo the Lyngdorf too early compared to the MEN 220.
For me, several months between two listenings can make comparisons difficult...
Maybe that no one of these units will suit your needs and tastes, but if you decide to buy one of them, this is my personal reflexion :
If I were in the US, I would wait for the Mc and buy the Mc I think because from what I heard :
Lyngdorf : 3800 $
Mc : 4500 $
Not a big difference although you could maybe have a better price on the Lyngdorf.
Mc has 3 big advantages :
- the look
- reliable reputation
- very easy to sell with low lost value if you change your mind ( excuse my english, it's awful this morning ! )

Cheers,
Jérôme

Please, keep us informed of your conclusions with the Lyngdorf
All good points to keep in mind. This type of device does require a lengthy demo. I'll need to decide if such a device is something that would be useful in my systems or not. I'll get back to everyone once I've spent some time with each. Some have decided to purchase the MEN220 without a audition first- not very smart in my opinion.

I totally agree !
The MEN 220 or the Lyngdorf RP1 could be extremely useful in one system and a complete no-sense in an other one.
This kind of equipment requires a complete demo at home, for at least 1 week.
My room has a so awful acoustics, that in 2 hours I knew I could not live anymore without the Lyngdorf. But I'm sure that won't be the same for everyone....

I've got one room with my digital stuff that has exceptional acoustics while the analog playback system in my playroom,in mean master bedroom , has very good acoustics. Wait & see what happens......

I have both Lyngdorf and MEN220, both works well for room tweaks or final tweaks after the basic room correcting is done by passive method.

The difference between both, in my opinion ... is it does introduces some part of their characteristics in sound reproduction.

MEN is my final choice as my system is mainly Mc. Placement of the mic for readings plays a crucial part, try playing around with the mic in your 2nd and 3rd reading point.. Face it to the speakers or face the reflective walls gives different results... Try it out and have fun with it :-)

Tein3,

I am considering a Lyngdorf or an MEN220. Beyond the aesthetics, are there sonic differences between the two units? If so, how do they differ?

McIntosh has solved the problem and corrected units with the balanced inputs/outputs quite a while ago.

I am not aware that Lyngdorf has ever addressed the problem.

Does anyone here know???

Hi, my opinion of Lyngdorf, it leans towards thinner and brighter side of things as compared to MEN. It works nicely in warmer sounded set up. It does it's job well as a room correction unit, do not get me wrong :-)

Thanks.

I need to add some warmth to my system.
