I wouldn't worry too much, do and use what works and sound best! Two tables I use mats and weights but no outer ring.....the third table I use weights and outer ring but no mat.....

I also use the Furatech Monza. tightens up the bass nicely. In my system I generally prefer no weight to maintain upper air and life in the music.

I replaced the suspension but still have the same issues with heavier weight...Do you find any problems with TD160 and the heavier weight?
The Bren 1 is around 400 gr. or just over 14 oz. and I was able to adjust the suspension (Linn Springs) with no problem. However the Thorens stabilizer at 5 oz. more weight was not optimum with the TD160 or TD150 (Thorens Springs), but works fine with the TD126 which has a lighter arm on it..

I'll revive this thread rather than start a new one...

What do the Rega crowd think of using record clamps? I have an RP3 with the TT-PSU. I've been told that Rega say not to use one. OTOH, Roy Gandy says not to clean records either, and I think that's B.S. and have heard how much better they sound clean vs. dirty.

Anyway, I have some records that are slightly bowed and I can see them off the mat when playing. I wonder what that does for the sound. Sometimes, I get some interaction between my Rega and my REL sub, and wonder if a clamp might help...or make it worse.

Finally, I have the Groovetracer Reference Subplatter upgrade on my RP3, which has a somewhat taller spindle than the Rega one. If I try the JA MItchell clamp, do I still need the special one for Rega, or the standard one?

I use both the Michell clamp for my GyroDec SE and the one for my Pro-ject. I have however consistently found that if the pressure is to high the sound quality goes down and the LP will also warp upwards so that means VTA is compromised..

Well, since none of the Rega people have anything to say on this I am going to save my money and pass on a clamp, assuming it's not really going to do much or anything for my RP3.

I'm using a JA Rega clamp with the groove tracer without an issue.

And what benefit, if any, is it giving you?

Without using a mat, it locks the record in place and helps flatten it.

Race...I've like a weight compared to the clamp type for the Rega, can't go too heavy though due to the motor and bearings. This said, I change records on the fly so having a weight/clamp device one usually has to stop the tt. Rega recommends not to use one but Herbies Audio Lab makes a couple and I use his mat on the P25 with no problems just great sound.
