If Mc was smart, they would do a reissue of the 501. LOVED the 501 and it’s 3D glass.

When the MC 601 came out a lot of people were upgrading and you could get a pair in good condition for less than $6000. I have seen very few MC 501’s for sale lately - people realize how good they are and keep them! So prices may reflect that.

I've had my three MC501's a tad over 12 years now, and love them. Yes, I've eyed the 601's and 611's...they are beautiful amps for sure. But at the end of the day, I can't seem to justify making a change.
The 501's sound great; clean and powerful, never a hiccup or issue of any kind. They are wonderful amps.

And of course, with Ivan handles, they sound even better!

... not to mention that the MC501s have a depth that fits into a standard audio rack easily. I still have three MC501s that for now are sitting idle because of changes I have made recently in my HT and my listening area. Eventually, I will find another use for them.

Terry....that's an excellent point. For an amplifier of their stature, they are actually pretty compact. But you still don't really want to lift one yourself!

Okay....so MAYBE the handles don't improve the sound, but they certainly give the 501's a more "muscular" look.....

I bought mine new when they had been out for a year or so from a dealer in Wisconsin or Minnesota (so long ago don’t remember exactly). He was violating all the Mc rules by selling over the net (A’gon) for really good prices so I took a chance. Best amps I’ve ever owned. Will never sell, but I expect my wife will when I’m dead and gone. Glad to see they’ll pay for a nice box....
