Well, if you are throwing out reviewer names around, Dick Olsher named the Concert Fidelity CF 080 LS/X his reference.

Back to topic. I've also heard some of the AN (UK) gear. The speakers are..ahem..lively: as Jerome says, quite forward. Need corner loading and have a tendency to muddy the lower registers. Impressive in a "look at me" sort of way not a speaker I would want long term. Very room dependant. Easy to drive. The UK amps I haven't heard but like Kondo Jp are very expensive. I know which ones I'd buy if I had the system that they would do justice to. I really like the AN Dac's esp the 4.1 Sign: very analogue sound if missing a little detail.

I must say the Doshi has a very loyal following.

The Concert Fidelity stuff isn't bad, but it is kind of overpriced for what it is, because it's made in such small quantities. The fellow that imports it in the US is a really nice guy. I'd like to see them get a little more traction in the US.
And seriously, take reviewer references with a grain of salt. It's easy to make a product your reference when you don't pay for it. If you take a cursory poll and see who's actually written checks for most of their "reference gear" it's me, Mikey Fremer and Jacob Heilbrunn at TAS(who also writes for us). The rest of em OWN precious little anything. Mikey and I don't always agree on perspective, but he gets all the respect in the world, because when he believes in a product, he gets out his checkbook. |

MF may speak with his checkbook when he likes a product, but you must admit that it is much easier to do at Industry Consideration pricing. Myself I don't have an issue with that , but in many industries that would against ethics policies to accept something because of your position. Jim |
