For the record, my two favorite lines of speakers are the YGs and magicos.
Thanks for the feedback.

If it helps, I heard the S1 at CES and loved them. Awesomely huge soundstage. Excellent detail and delicacy from top to bottom of the frequency range. Truly substantial bass which was made from the same cloth as the mids. Literally a stunning speaker, with one possible caveat, below. Certainly helped by the fact that amplification was from uber-awesome Constellation Audio.

While the YG Carmel shared some of these qualities (large soundstage, very "big" sound for a small floorstander, highly refined) the Carmel was not as good in any category, to my ears.

The Carmel did not crank out the bass slam you expect when certain rock songs were played, such as "Semi Charmed Kind of Life." For this reason I marked them off my list. The S1 caveat: their room did not permit requests, so I couldn't test the S1's performance on such regular-guy headbanger music. If their bass dynamics hold up when I finally get to test this, I fear I will need to buy a pair.
Cheers,
Hukk

Thank you kindly for the feedback hukkfinn. I am itching for an audition when my dealer does get a pair.

I am with you. The S1 were amazing. To my ears, in a completely different league than the Carmel. I believe Magico will sell a ton of them, I hope the waiting list will not be too long.

How does the S1 compare to the Q1?

tough question. I have the Q1, but have not heard the S1 in my home. I have ordered a pair (for my HT system, dark grey Mcast) so will know more in a few months.
In short, my preliminary impressions:
Q1 still has the ultimate transparency. Slightly faster and more detailed. S1 on the other side has a a more relaxing sound (i.e. more tolerant to poor recordings... but who wants to listen to a poor recording on a Magico?), a bit more balanced towards the bass. At less than half of Q1 price, it is a real bargain, difference is less than what price suggests. M-cast finish looks also very nice.

Thanks for the feedback.

What amp(s) do you use with your Q1s?

Right now a Devialet. Was also nice with my Dartzeel 108. But I like the convenience of the Devialet

Does anyone have info on the available color / finish options for the S1?
