My experience with the 6900/7000
Quote:
Two weeks ago, an MA7000 replaced an MA6900 that I had for seven years. I liked the 6900 quite a lot but the 7000 sounds even better to me. To my honeymooning ears, the 7000 is an amazing piece; I think we'll have a long, happy union. I suppose auditioning the 7000 at home to see if there's an appreciable difference between it and your separates would be the best way for you to avoid a serious case of post-purchase cognitive dissonance. Good luck! |

Thank you everyone for you input and consideration. I would be lying to say that an epiphany was reached and I hope to continue to revisit the issue in the next several days. In my experience, it's been like everything in our hobby, an evolution. Perceived losses and gains; "the better; the stronger; and close to the best... as it will ever get." As with all pursuits... The cost of pursuing "that place" has now grown larger than I had ever expected. I, too, once had an MA6500; attached it to some monitors and loved it. Changed speakers and was told I would need more power. Believed that I would be losing something keeping it as a "one-box solution." But after a small fortune in interconnects; began to realize that maybe I may have had "it" all along. I am not saying that a move towards an integrated unit will retire my pursuits- but I am also hoping to get to a place where it finally brings me back to what it was all about to begin with... the music.

Don't rule out the MA6600, McIntosh's newest integrated. Several of us are quite pleased with it.

I think it is quite telling that so many of us music lovers are very happy with our McIntosh integrated amps. Several of us are MA7000 owners and several others own MA6600's.
Seeing who owns the integrated amps is gratifying because most are regular posters in the various "what are you listening to" threads and are obviously very selective in what they listen to and in the equipment that they use. I detect that all are quite pleased with their integrated amps and don't find it necessary to move to separate components. McIntosh integrated amps are really good and look OK too. .. .

Absolutely... I could not agree with you more. Take home message: Keep separates and find another room for the integrated
