Bob, I hope you see that tracking number soon, you've been waiting too long !

I agree, I'd like Bob to experience what I am hearing through my VAC for himself.

Bob,

Just pull up your Depends, and hang on. You are in for a treat.

Does anyone chiming in have experience or opinions on my 90s era VAC pre? I would love to know how others feel and if for it's time, it was thought of the same way as this new beauty being discussed.

I guess more Tube rolling is in order but I am real happy with what Kevin set me up with after the lousy tubes I was running.

I also live less than a mile from RBH Sound Dezign, Bob Backert who does some of the most gorgeous mods to tube equipment in his modest basement shop. He brought my Counterpoint amp back to life when I came into the VAC-Counterpoint-Clearfield setup for next to nothing. He offers many levels of mods. Since my unit is getting old, should I recap it or more?

Anyway, Joe, the new one is a Beaut and I like how he made the power supply match and stack with the pre, unlike mine where the PS is a 20lb ugly black box hiding behind my rack.
I loved my Counterpoint SA-220 amp and 3.1 preamp. It might be worth having your VAC preamp checked out. I remember it the early 90's going to my favorite dealer and ogling all the VAC gear and other high gear. Those were fun times. Yes, I think my new VAC looks and more importantly, sounds great. I really love it.

Yeah, I would like to have it updated-modded but the money is an issue. I happen to have a kmart budget and really lucked into the current setup for next to nothing. The mods RHB quoted me were about $2k. I'll continue to consider it if I get a nice bonus this year.

I am really enjoyng the Counterpoint since I rolled the 50 y/o RCA Cleartops in.

As long as she works, enjoy it. You could always have it looked at. Glad to hear the new tubes are making you happy. That's what it's all about.
