McIntosh has been amazing in all this. I never had the original box, they sent one free ($125), sent the replacement board for free, and they covered labor from G-M. I basically just had to cover shipping each way. Grant it that was about $500, but all in all I got it fixed for nothing. A+++ McIntosh
How did you get McIntosh to cover the repair for free?

I had the exact same TV related MX151 problem. TV software update was the fix.

I'm active duty military stationed in Japan. Their location in Tokyo won't touch it and after going back and forth with them over the issue I had to ship it to San Diego.

It does it with hdmi and optical. And the repair shop was able to replicate it pretty easily

Another update......

They have now replaced at least 4 different boards, including the initial one months ago. The repair shop nor McIntosh know what the issue is. They have other boards on the way now for replacement.

Seems like I'll have a fully replaced unit when and if I get it back.....

It's really disheartening to read through this thread. Apparently, the MX150 series has had quite a few problems. I've seen some negative comments on the entire line of MX series theater processors;
I've had an MX120 for just a short time now and absolutely love it; though it was a bit confusing to set up initially.

I've heard nothing but good things about this particular model from users here, including Dan aka jdandy (I had heard his MX120 before I purchased mine) and David aka 1KW.

I am a long time McIntosh lover (I grew up in the Binghamton area). But it does seem very apparent that they truly need to get their act together on certain items and products-most notably their more recent
digital offerings, firmware updates (they need to read the Oppo playbook here) and they definitely need to staff up their service department. The wait times discussed here are truly ridiculous. I've been hearing
about this particular issue for quite some time. I've heard that they have like two service technicians. That's absurd.

I don't know what the answer is. But we all know where the buck stops in Binghamton....

Sorry to hear about your MX150 troubles and hopefully it will be fixed soon. I wonder if it really has something to do with your move and transportation to Japan. It is unfortunate that problems happen sometimes with electronic devices and all its many variables.

I absolutely love my MX150 and it has been trouble free with fabulous sound especially bass performance, and RoomPerfect is awesome for fine tuning your sound. I have done firmware updates and McIntosh website/email support has always responded quickly, been patient and accommodating with all my questions. The MX150 is a winner in my book!

I purchased a new MX150 about fours ago and it has been a stellar performer. I’ve updated the firmware twice since it was new and had no issues with either update. Both updates were quick and easy. I have no desire to part with my MX150. Love it.

I really feel for you and hope the board issue gets resolved quickly. It’s rough when something in our system is not performing to perfection.

Default MX150, so frustrated....its just a paper weight, 4th update, 29 Dec

The MX 150 / MX 151 is a stellar performer.

It appears that the complexity and capability of the 150/151 has exceeded McIntosh's ability to appropriately service and support the unit.

I'm sure the op will end up with a properly functioning unit.

Good luck,

Tom
