Default Mundorf coupling capacitors vs Jensen’s

Went back to the Jensen capacitors for the midrange. The Mundorfs are better everywhere except the midrange.

They sent the Mundorfs back with the amp.

Are used capacitors worth anything or should I just throw them out?

Are they the Mundorf EVO Silver Gold caps? What are the values?

I'm on the other end of the spectrum of preference. Tried and removed my Jensen oils (two different amps/preamps) and went to the new EVOs and never looked back.

Great caps. I like the Jensen midrange, although they are taking forever to burn in.

I think they are the EVO silver and gold.

I put them on E-Bay. Search “Mundorf Cary”

They are the ones on the Cary site.

For documentation purposes, I ended up using he Mundorf SESG (non oil) Supreme EVO Silver-Gold caps in my Cary V12R amp and will likely use them again in my other vendor mono blocks in the future. A few notes.

WARNING: 200+ hours of burn in, no joke, it was a roller coaster ride for me and i was pre-warned by my local tech. He was right.

Part # prefix symbols:
SESG is non-oil
SESGO is with oil

A note on Cary Audio site that is consistent with my findings in my last CA amp.

Mundorf MCap SUPREME EVO SilverGold Capacitors

The MCap SUPREME EVO SilverGold is the undisputed top capacitor from Mundorf. It combines the best of Mundorf’s technologies and over 30 years of experience in the manufacturing of audiophile masterpieces into a unique capacitor of equally unique musicality. Metallised polypropylene is used as the dielectric guaranteeing low tolerances and the highest standards of safety in use thanks to its self-healing properties. After going through Mundorf’s top quality winding process, the capacitor winding is potted by hand into aluminum tubes to minimize microphony. The gold plated, asymmetrical pure copper wires make it possible to assemble it in a classic horizontal style.

The Mundorf MCap SUPREME EVO SilverGold capacitors have a full, sweet sound quality yet also are more articulate and revealing of low level detail than other high-end audio capacitors. The mid and low-midrange areas have better definition as well as more weight and body revealing the true character of acoustic instruments. A stand-up bass completely comes to life. The texture of instruments and vocals are just more musical and involving. They also have the speed and detail desired to keep up with the fastest drum lines and sweet revealing highs for every bit of delicate reverberations and air. They just have more music!

Put the same Mundorf EVO Supreme Silver Gold non-oil caps in my Quicksilver Mono 120 amps with KT150s. Exact same beautiful tone and texture I had with the Cary amp(s).

That's what I've got in my Elekit TU-8500 and think they are great. My new SLP-98P has its work cut out for it if it is going to dethrone the Elekit.

FYB2, to confuse matters further - I still have Jensen Oiler caps in my SLP-98 and the Mundorf EVO Silver Gold coupling caps in my prior and current amps. One type of each in both, split 50/50. I like the blend of the two across the system for my setup. And, a buddy put the Mundorfs in his 98 too (preamp and amp), and he likes that combo yet he has milky midrange Harbeth speakers, so I guess it balances out for him in a different way.

Also, fwiw, I had to try a few different 6SN7s in the 98, removing the EH, and once I went to vintage/NOS (RCA or Sylvania or TJ/Sophia, or maybe try PSVANE) and some other boutique tubes, thats when my 98 came alive. Tone and texture showed up w/musicality. The right caps and 6SN7s in the 98 really help make it a gem.

Got everything installed this just now and sounds great with the stock EH tubes. When I head back down to the man-cave after lunch I'm going to roll some tubes and listen to some vinyl.

Did check the caps and has KimberKaps in the line-stage (wonder who makes them? same question for Cardas caps) and big fat Solen films in the phono-stage.
