Dan, I'm a big Tung-Sol fan and I couldn't tell any difference between the Gold Pin and regulars. Both are outstanding.

Anyone know how the new reissue Mullards stack up? Or should I look for the new old stock? I'm kind of a tube newbie when it comes to the diferent flavors.

The only Mullard re-issues I've tried were power, not preamp tubes, they were ok.

I am not a big fan of the Mullards. I like Dan's advice, check out the Tung Sol's.

Or go with Telefunkens.

The thing is, everyone has different tastes, so you really have to hear for yourself.

I have the Gold Lion 12ax7's sitting in a drawer. I am going to put the LED kit in my C2200, so I figure when I open it up to do that I will change the tubes.

Right now I have Telefunkens in there.

I have the Gold Lions in there now and they are really nice. I should wait until the C2300 is really broken in before I experiment. It's still going through some changes. I plan on waiting until I have a little over 200 hours on it before I do anything so I can get comfortable with how it sounds.

The reason I recommended Mullards is that that OP wanted "gooey, syrupy" 12AX7s...Mullards fit this descpription better than anything that comes to mind.
