Will be an interesting stock to watch for sure. So far less than half of 150 Million subscribers worldwide are paid subscribers. The revenue was impressive at nearly $5B but Spotify is still losing money. Spotify needs more "paid" subscribers and people don't want to "pay" for music lately.
Penetrating the Indian market with their 1.3 Billion population and their upcoming smartphone revolution would be key for a streaming service like Spotify but India already has their own key players. China with another 1.2 Billion people? Not sure what's going on in China and music. |

Your saying Spotify is $5B in revenue? |

Based on a few articles I have read, yes, nearly $5B with a net loss of $378M in 2017 mostly due to cost of sales such as licensing expenses with record labels and artists. The US market is huge for Spotify by the way. 18% of US population is supposedly using Spotify on a monthly basis. Spotify has 36% share of streaming worldwide. Not bad.

Just read it was valued at $8.4B when it raised $400M in 2015, and now valued at $29B. 159M ad supported free listeners and 70M paid users. Revenue of $5B, loss of $1.5B The illusion is selling the listeners paid or not as an asset and not understanding or knowing a balance sheet. This is hard for me to base something without a solid foundation, thought the same thing about Amazon and still do but like seeing the rockets exhibited in the Boeing Museum that Bezos picks up of the Atlantic sea floor cause he can. |
