Component priority
Linn believes source is the most important component in a system. Garbage in, garbage out. What say you?
How would you prioritize the following: Power conditioner Source Preamp Poweramp Speakers |

For me the Amp/Speaker pairing is first, I find this contributes the most to the sonic flavor the system takes on.....then preamp and then everything else in no particular order.

For me:
Source (analog) Preamp Amp Source (digital) Speakers Cables Felix |

Based on the list I would say the speakers, amplifier, preamplier, source. I've had mixed experieinces with power conditioners.
Should the room be considered a component? |

For me:
#1: Speaker-room match #2: Amp-Speaker match #3: Preamp and source equally important #4: Ancillaries: cabling, rack, power conditioning, etc... |

In my view it is all important...

2--Power amp 3--Preamp 4--Source 5--Power conditioner When I have a party, I usually use my Tascam 5 disk carousel so I don't have to be a slave to the CDs. Anyone who asks, audiophiles included are always in disbelief that they are listening to a $250 disk player through the rest of my system. If garbage in, garbage out is what people believe, they should listen to many raw recordings before they are mastered. They really sound like crap. ---The primary source first; the original music recording.
Then everything else is part of the complete audio reproduction chain. |
