BTW John, do you have any good address for vinyl shopping in London (new or used)

I visit London quite often and I need to check the LP's place next time I'm there

Not sure how much detail he will let you have, though. I know I cannot afford one, so will wait until it's out.

John
That's interesting, I've always heard him suggest just the opposite.

Classical, rock or jazz?

Check this thread out:

http://www.talkclassical.com/10972-cd-shop-london.html

Been to all of them on the list but not in a while. Sad to hear of Cheapo Records going under as well as the huge used record store in Croydon. There also used to be two great stores in Brighton as well as one in Edinborough run by an ex-pat from Colorado.

Harold Moore's is nice but pricey. Loved Gramex out by Waterloo Station (you have to have lunch at the fire station turned into a pub and the pub that is under the RR tracks there!) and used to do a lot of shopping there as well as Classic Music Exchange/Notting Hill Gate. The nice thing about the CME is that they mark down the LPs every week they're in the store so can often find some real bargains. Another suggestion is to pick up a copy of Grammaphone and go through the record store listings.

The ref power supply isn't an option for the Volvere SP. All AVID tables have the power supply calibrated to a specific motor. You can upgrade the Volvere SP to the Sequel SP.

Hi Jeff,

Oh dear... Who is right?

I had contacted my friendly dealer to ask if an SME V would be a good upgrade on my OrGY ( Orbe'd Michell Gyro SE ), which had an SME IV. His suggestion was that the turntable should be replaced first... So one home trial of Avid Acutus SP later... During the trial I spoke on the telephone two or three times with Conrad and I asked his opinion of the IV versus V on the Acutus. I am sure that he thought the IV better because of the balancing...

But if YOU are right, I need to get a V pronto! I can't have less than the best!

Perhaps someone could ask him? Again...

And an Acutus SP to the Reference...

It's easy to miss the details from one post to another.

I have Acutus SP, SME IV, Benz Micro LP-S

Just had another thought on this...

Conrad wanted to sell a turntable... He would have said that ANY arm I had was great on the Acutus! Wouldn't he?

I didn't think he was like that...

I spoke to Conrad before I bought my tonearm for my acutus. He said the SME IV was very good but the V was better if budget allowed. Funnily enough I spoke to Conrad recently about upgrading my power supply but I don't think I have 5500 squids worth of stuff to sell I will be in Cambridge in less than one month so I need to decide!

Hi Howie,

If you had no arm, asked Conrad for help and he said V, then

Look like me buying V...

My wife will *************************** me!
