This is the author's explanation (rationale) behind the "Coupe" description.

A slight digression concerning that label. Many people can’t accept the term coupe for a car with four seats, let alone four doors. That’s because they don’t really know what it means, as they would were manufacturers to use the equally applicable and probably more appropriate American hot rod descriptor “chopped.” The elegant French word coupé—pronounced koo-pay—just means “cut”

It is the author that really doesn't know what it means because "chopped" in custom circles refers to dropping a vehicle's height through various means, ie: roofline, body side panels etc. It has nothing to do with the origin of Coupe' (coo-PAY) which takes its meaning from a reduction in length, normally providing enough room for 2 doors only.

Nice try but good luck at redefining a term with over a century's worth of history in the automotive world.

The car is not even a hardtop; has a full B pillar, a rear seat and four doors. It is a sedan. Period.

Speaking of "chopped" - these days, more than a couple of cars have such a raised beltline that they have a chopped-like appearance. Camaros, Mustangs, Chryslers, and on and on. I'm guessing it's partly for stylistic reasons and perhaps partly to help with side impact requirements. Or maybe that last is just a fortuitous side effect.

I'm glad I have an old F250 that I can rest my elbow on without said elbow being above my ear! Especially because that shoulder doesn't like it.

Don't know, but I'm guessing from that 1st pic that it's not as big as the Panamera.

Growing up and then later working in the auto industry during the 50's & 60's a hardtop had a B-pillar and could have been a 2 or 4 door vehicle. A sedan was a 4 door with no B-PIllar.
