MCD301 DAC Info
Would anyone know what DAC is in my MCD301 CD player? Curiosity seems to have gotten the better of me.

Burr brown (now owned by TI) dsd1792. Dsd compatible version of the pcm1792. It’s a hybrid sigma delta dac. Denon and Marantz used these on their higher models a few years ago. I think mcd301 is from the D&M era.
Dac chips now are so cheap that they aren’t exclusive to the very high end anymore. The implementation and a good power section still cost good money. This is where the difference will be. I wouldn’t worry too much about the dac chip used. It should still sound much better than a Denon or Marantz with the same chip. |

Thanks.....
I am very happy with the sound. I asked because someone on Audiogon ragged on the MCD301 saying it used a crappy dac and isn't musical. All I kept thinking was "what is he smoking". I am quite satisfied with it, it loads quickly and sounds great. However, I do not like the tiny display and limited info it gives you. But, that is nitpicking. I'm using it in my secondary system with a McIntosh MA6600 Integrated and a MR85 Tuner and a Sony HAP music server connected to Golden Ear Triton 1 speakers.
