Hmm, never heard that in any system with Nordost or Shunyatas grounding system. It's the other way around.
If you use that kind of system in the right way there is lower noicefloor and let it be more darknes around any sound in the recording. It is the most effect on the digital side.

The Krells are working perfectly fine. They are all fully serviced by a authorized and very experienced engineer that has worked with Krell, ARC and other big brends products since the beginning of time... almost. He know Krell as I know my pocket. But since they are 20 years old it is a gift every day as long as they work this good.

Carl, many folks have residual hum in their systems when the volume is turned up loud enough when there is no signal. Hum and hiss can be quite mysterious and difficult to eliminate. I suspected that you meant more darkness. I'm glad to hear the Krells are working to your satisfaction. As you know Wilson has come out with heavy Pedestals and I have cleared it with Wilson that they will work under the rails of my MC3500's. A CD or download if you are at all into American jazz is "Dreams of New Orleans" by Wycliff Gordon. It's an audiophile classic IMO. I have to say that I was always envious of your Krells but my 3500's have made me forget all other amps.

Best

Charles

Your system is gorgeous. I'v never heard MC3500 but I take your word for it.

Nice roller skates!

I had Einstein make new loads for my two mono Riaa The Turntables Choice. I tried som different loads and thought 400 Ohm was the best with Lyra Atlas Lambda.

I always listen to different systems by friends or at domonstrations. I always try to figure out their best characteristics.
I try to hang on to the journey of familiar systems that I know and try to figure out what I can learn from that in my system.

One thing I always wanted to to in my system is to move my speakers around a bit to optimize the sondstage and overall sound. I'v had a hard time doing that because to short cables.
Tri-amping comes with a demanding cable issue. I have now bought one more pair of Nordost Valhalla speaker cables. I now use Nordost Odin to Mid and Hi 250-35000Hz - Nordost Valhalla to upper base 80-250Hz - and Nordost Valhalla deep low 18-80 Hz.

These used pair is the last purchese.

At this point I could reorganize my cables so that I could move my speaker around. Not easy since the weigh around 680 lbs per speaker but I'm still in shape for it.

My goal with this was to have a better soundstage more depth behind the speakers. I already have a very wide soundstage but tried to get more 3d sound.

I moved the speakers out in the room and both speaker a bit to the right. I got a better soundstage fore sure but lost a bit slam and power in the bottom end. I did not want that but tried to get used to thet reality. I'v never been a listener that listen so much for 3d and so. I'm more into fast transients, dynamics, realistic sound and timbre from acoustic instuments. It's very god now but during some time i miss my tremendous slam and power. If you never heard it you would think it's plenty but you know... since you heard better there is no turning back. I decidet to have it back... and why not even more.

Lets go back to the year 2000. I tried to get the sound powerfull with some subwoofers. I tried hard but never got them good integrated. More power but less music.
Since then I'v heard many many big systems with subwoofers. The "bad timing" always killed the music. Bad trade off I thought.

For som years ago a started to hear very good big systems with well integrated Subwoofers.
Often with REL.

I'v got two Bob Carver Sunfire True subwoofer for my homecinema but they are not to match up with my HiFi-system.

I read a lot of reviews during last winter and tried to listen to as many subwoofers I could.
I often go to classical music to the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra. It's not possible to match that real life sound experience but some parts in it could be good to try to get clouser to. Like power, sondstage, and how the low end warmth is big airy and powerfull without getting loud. It's hard to describe that experience but it's overwhelming and a desirable quality to gain in a HiFi system. So that was part of may desire.

One demo with JL-Audio Gotham V2 was extraordinary. It was the best integreated subwoofer I'v ever heard. JL-audio has got a lot of features to align the sub with the main-speakers and the room perfectly. And the output from The two drivers in Gotham V2 is enrmeous. 4500watt can drive them excellent. The over all construction and engineering is top of the line.

I just had to try one.

After som thinking where to put it and I'v got some help from an acoustic engineer we calculated a reasonable location in my room.
The idea is not to fill upp my uper base since thats already powerfull, but to met upp in the deep low att about 35hz and try to have a great output down below 20hz.
Down in these rigeons a lot of space is reveled in the recording and of corse power. Along with this all the way up to mid and hi Hz you will gain smoothnes and space and airiness.

I manage to get the Gotham V2 completely integrated in the soundstage as I wanted.
This is the best and biggest upgrade in my system. It does not just makes the system better in their field. It's a completely new field of music reproduction with a great subwooferintegration. I'm blown away.

Pics coming soon below.

This was one system with new subwoofers and it got much better. That inspired me.

Pics coming soon below.

It's a beast! 360 lbs and rounded corners. Not easy to lift.

One day it was standing outside our house.

4 people, me a friend and my son and his friend got it up some stairs and into the house. It was quite tricky to get in in place. After that everything was easy. 4 minutes later it was calibrated and ready to use.
The calibration is a walk in the park. One microphone in the sweet spot, no internet connection or extra computer that can screw it up. Just press CALIBRATE and be still and quiet.

This is the spot for JL Audio Gothamn V2.

It is standing on three damped feets.

Very polished.

After a day or two I came upp with these settings to make it fully integrated.

Tried the first week with a no name interconnect cable but upgraded after som few weeks to Nordosts subwoofer cable. Blue Heaven.
That change the sound a bit so a made a new calibration and fine tuned the settings a bit for best performance.

As powercord i use Nordost Brahma.

Can you see it? So small that you can hide it behind your speakers...

I'v been at demonstration with other subwoofer brands and how to calibrate and make the subwoofer integrated. Never it's so easy with so good results as with JL Audio. Due to my knowledge ther is no other brand that makes this so easy to get it perfectly integrated. For me that is when you never hear the subwoofer. It does not reveal it selves in the soundstage. It just ads low Hz with power, warmth, space, accuracy and richness in the soundstage and sound. When you are playing by lower volumes its more easy to get a good sound as well.

This is the crowded speaker cable connections in the back sid of The Sf.

From the sweet spot.

I heard people say, looking att my pictures or others of the set up and room and sugest that there is a problem. They talk about acoustic treatment and that it's a shame to have this system in such a room. They got no clue about it. The room is excellent. And it's careful furnished and treated for being a excellent listening space.

Noticeable is that my room is treated with built in to the ceiling base traps, and damping and diffusion in the ceiling. Everything specially built and adapted to my circumstances. In addition to that I use damping and diffusion that I put in strategic places for optimal listening experience. In front of the screen and so on.

I'm a bit lucky with this listening space. The base in the room is as close to perfect as it can be. Never overloaded, textured, detailed, fast and deep. Not even when playing Reel to Reel with very deep Hz and very loud the room starts to .
I recently had an acoustic specialist in this room to measure it. He found nothing substantial in the measurement that he would change. He just relocated two damping plates a bit. That made the curve look better but hard to hear.

It's not easy to judge a room or system without being there and listen.
