My congratulation, wondeful choice, enjoy your new amp. And please show us some photos.
I have also some class A amps (Accuphase A100, A70 and A 60) and I love them. One year ago I heard in the rooms of my dealer Mcintosh MC 2KW, MC 2301 and Accuphase A200 with Magico Q5. All three sounded wonderful but it was no blind test so all what I would say now about the sound differences is rubbish.

Best regards

Martin

Congrats! Do I assume correctly, this is the pair Ivan was recently offering?

Congrats, awesome end game setup.

Then, I made the huge mistake of listening to a buddy's E-600 with a pair of TAD CE-1s and I knew that the downhill run had turned into an ice covered plummet. That just layered on top of all of the reviews talking about the wonderful synergy between TADs and Accuphase electronics. Plus, the WAF of the C3800 and the McIntosh 2301 combo was quite low. She didn't care for all of the black stuff in the first instance and definitely didn't like the combination of nearly all black stuff and some gold stuff - so I had to oblige her and add some more gold stuff.

Seriously, the 2301s were and are an absolutely wonderful, stunning pair of amplifiers. In fact, I had recently declared that I would never part with them, and I'm surprised I did. On the other hand, that Class A sound is really something and the opportunity to run Class A amps through the C3800 into the TADs at a very attractive price was more than I could pass up. It was lots more money than I had envisioned spending in such a short time, but I'm now old enough to know that one has to strike when the opportunity arises, or one looks back and wonders what might have been.

I'm quite relieved that the 2301s are going to a good AAer. I was so concerned that they'd go to someone with no audio taste and more money than sense, but they're going to be paired with a big pair of Strads and I think they'll live well for a good long while.

So, TAD CR-1s + C3800 + A200 monoblocks. How bad can it be?

Default Missing a Key Ingredient

Well, UPS delivered on Friday, but the problem was they only delivered one of the A200s! I have no idea why, but the other one wasn't on the same truck. So, I have one of the beautiful beasts out of the box and ready to go, and the other nowhere in sight.

It's likely just as well, as I had new dedicated lines installed on Friday and there are a few details of those to finish up. I'm also waiting on new amp stands that should arrive on Tuesday, so I suppose UPS's delay will save me some back and forth (because I had fully planned on cranking the A200s up while they were sitting on the floor before the amp stands got here). On top of that, I'm having "screens" that sit behind the stands with pre-drilled holes for cabling delivered with the amp stands, so there will be lots of recabling to be done too. The screens are painted the same color as my walls, so hopefully fewer visible cables and more matching components will help with the WAF.

This was my last weekend of spring break and next week, it's back to the grind, so I'll have to fit the installation around the real world this week.

I suppose absence makes the heart grow fonder . . . .

Jim... sounds like you are all over it; looking forward to the finished pics!

In the meantime you could always play some mono recordings.

One reason to ship a pair of amps on pallets.

That is one beautiful system you are putting together.

I heard the A200's once overseas, one of the best sounding Amps I ever heard.
