In all seriousness it is a problem but since most audiophiles tend to take care of their CDs like storing them in jewel boxes and not exposing them to UV light as well as handling them more carefully vs throwing them around like a Frisbee, the typical CD that has spent its life tucked away in a jewel box should be rot free much longer than a typical CD that was exposed to a rougher life with scratches to the lacquer layer protecting the aluminum reflective layer which will oxidize quickly when exposed to oxygen.

Truth be told I think that in my case, most errors I found were from scratches. But there were a few where the CD looked pristine. I doubt that it had anything to do with rot.

My CD timeframe usage is just about the same as yours. I’ve never had a disc fail other than one I may have stepped on and broke.

I have had just a couple of CDs fail over the years, though I never could determine the cause. I was able to rip each one so no harm, no foul.
